Is Pradeep Ranganathan’s Dude 2 on the cards? Director Keerthiswaran teases sequel new idea, hints at STR project
Pradeep Ranganathan starrer Dude, directed by Keerthiswaran was released back on Diwali 2026 and had Mamitha Baiju as the co-lead.
Dude, starring Pradeep Ranganathan in the lead role, was released in theaters on October 17, 2025, coinciding with the Diwali festive season. Now, it appears that the actor and director may reunite for a sequel.
Is Pradeep Ranganathan’s Dude 2 on cards?
Speaking at a Behindwoods event, director Keerthiswaran said, “I have pitched an idea to Pradeep Ranganathan for Dude 2, which carries the spirit of Dude. If it works out, it will either be a sequel or a continuation of the film.”
Dude follows the story of cousins Agan and Kural, who launch a new event-planning venture together. As they grow closer while working on the business, one of them falls in love with the other and proposes marriage, complicating their relationship. However, just when everything seems to be heading toward a happy ending, an accidental pregnancy leads to a series of chaotic events.
With Mamitha Baiju as the co-lead, the film also featured R. Sarathkumar, Hridhu Haroon, Rohini, and several others in key roles. The movie received mixed reviews from critics but emerged as a box-office success.
Moreover, at the same event, the director hinted at his next project with Silambarasan TR in the lead role. He said, “I am currently working on a story. It has commercial elements, emotions, and much more. The script requires a star, and I have such a star in mind. We will make an announcement very soon.”
For those unaware, director Ashwath Marimuthu is expected to take up Thalaivar173 with Rajinikanth next, which could potentially delay the shoot of STR51 until 2027. As a result, speculation suggests that Silambarasan TR may collaborate with director Keerthiswaran on a new project after wrapping up Arasan with Vetrimaaran. However, the makers have yet to make an official announcement.
Pradeep Ranganathan’s work front
Pradeep Ranganathan was last seen in the lead role in Love Insurance Kompany (LIK). Directed by Vignesh Shivan, the sci-fi romantic comedy follows two individuals whose relationship falls apart due to the influence of an app that claims to predict compatibility scores. Set in the 2040s, the film revolves around whether the duo can overcome their differences and find their way back to each other.
