Jailer 2, starring Rajinikanth in the lead role, is one of the most anticipated films of 2026. Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the sequel was initially expected to feature Shah Rukh Khan in a cameo role. However, with the actor reportedly passing on the offer, it appears that the makers may scrap the cameo altogether.
Will makers of Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 scrap Shah Rukh Khan’s cameo?
According to online buzz shared by Movies Singapore, the makers of Jailer 2 are likely to remove the entire cameo role that was initially expected to be played by Shah Rukh Khan. Reportedly, the team will conduct a patchwork shoot with Rajinikanth on June 8 or 9, 2026, after the superstar returns from his vacation.
However, this remains a report for now, and no official confirmation has been made by the makers.
Earlier, Shah Rukh Khan was expected to make a cameo appearance and share screen space with Rajinikanth. However, due to his commitments to King, the actor reportedly passed on the opportunity. There were also speculations that Hrithik Roshan was being considered for the cameo, but no concrete confirmation has been made regarding the same.

Jailer 2 is an upcoming sequel directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, with Rajinikanth reprising his lead role. The film is expected to continue the story of Muthuvel Pandian following the events of the first installment.
Apart from the superstar, the film also stars Mithun Chakraborty, Vidya Balan, SJ Suryah, and Suraj Venjaramoodu in key roles. Additionally, Mohanlal and Shiva Rajkumar are expected to reprise their characters in the sequel. While the makers are yet to announce an official release date, reports suggest that the movie could hit the big screens on September 11, 2026.
Rajinikanth’s work front
Rajinikanth is next set to star in the tentatively titled Thalaivar173. The film is being co-produced by Kamal Haasan under the banner of Raaj Kamal Films International. Initially, Sundar C was expected to direct the project.
However, the actor-director later stepped away from the film, with Cibi Chakravarthi reportedly replacing him. While this is yet to be officially confirmed, recent reports suggest that Cibi Chakravarthi may also exit the project, with Ashwath Marimuthu, best known for Dragon, expected to come on board with a fresh storyline.
Looking ahead, Rajinikanth is also expected to reunite with Kamal Haasan in the tentatively titled KHxRK Reunion, which will reportedly be directed by Nelson Dilipkumar. The project was announced with a promo video, while Anirudh Ravichander has been confirmed as the composer of the songs and background score.
