Kalki 2, starring Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan in the lead roles, is currently in the works, with director Nag Ashwin returning to helm the sequel. Now, it appears that the makers may release standalone films exploring the backstories of each major character directly on OTT.
Is Kalki 2's character set to have backstory films on OTT?
According to Gulte, the makers of Kalki 2 are planning to create one-hour-long films centered on each major character in the franchise. These backstory films are reportedly expected to be released directly on OTT platforms ahead of the sequel’s release.
However, this information is based solely on a media report at the moment, and no official confirmation has been made by the makers.
Kalki 2898 AD’s sequel has been generating considerable buzz for some time now. The team recently began pre-production work on the film. Director Nag Ashwin has stated that regular shooting is likely to begin in August or September 2026.
Moreover, recent reports suggest that Alia Bhatt may also be a part of the sci-fi epic. However, the director has clarified that all casting decisions will be officially announced by the team and that, until then, any reports remain speculative. Allegedly, the actress is set to play a pivotal role and reportedly took part in a discreet shooting schedule in Hyderabad last month.

While the first instalment had Deepika Padukone in a pivotal role, the makers had confirmed the actress’ departure from the franchise, with Sai Pallavi rumored to replace her.
