Karuppu: Chinmayi Sripaada was ‘afraid’ to reveal she dubbed for Trisha, says ‘Hope it will help me work without fear’
After dubbing for Trisha in Lokesh Kanagaraj's Leo, Chinmayi Sripaada dubbed for her again in RJ Balaji's Karuppu.
Karuppu, directed by RJ Balaji and starring Suriya and Trisha Krishnan, finally hit theatres on Friday, May 15, 2026, after being delayed by a day due to hurdles. While the film has opened to a positive response from audiences, singer and dubbing artist Chinmayi Sripaada has also been receiving praise for lending her voice to Trisha’s character, Preethi. However, Chinmayi admitted that she was initially hesitant to even speak publicly about being part of the project.
Chinmayi admits she was ‘afraid’
Taking to her X (formerly Twitter) account, Chinmayi candidly opened up about her fears surrounding the film. She wrote, “Strange I am readying myself saying this... I was genuinely afraid this time, of sharing that I dubbed in Karuppu.” The singer further explained that her concern stemmed from the backlash she witnessed after dubbing for Trisha in Leo. She shared that she deeply respects RJ Balaji and his family and did not want them to face unnecessary criticism.
Chinmayi further wrote, “I have known R J Balaji a long time - he and his wife, are such lovely people and RJB himself, is someone whose entire life is such a story of grit, determination and a man working so, very hard to make his dreams come true. Maybe because I knew him and his family so well, that I was scared for him of what pushbacks he will get based on the experience last time with Leo,” her note read.
Chinmayi also revealed that dubbing certain scenes in the film turned into an emotional experience for her. “I remember crying buckets dubbing a couple of scenes in the film - it was a massive trigger, almost like I saw everything play out from the past, on the big screen,” she shared.
Despite her fears, the singer expressed gratitude towards RJ Balaji for trusting her with the role. Ending her note on a hopeful note, Chinmayi wrote, “And I hope Karuppu saami will help me work in my home ground, without fear and work without having to be scared of what will happen next. May God help Unban me and the others who have been banned from working, for years. #KaruppuBlockbuster.”
