Official trailer and plot of Karuppu
Karuppu begins with the story of Mattancherry Sukumaran and his daughter, Binu, who travel to Chennai for the latter’s surgery. Upon arrival, the duo is robbed of the gold intended to fund her treatment and files a complaint. Although the stolen gold is eventually recovered, Sukumaran and Binu are forced to navigate a lengthy process to reclaim it.
They approach Baby Kannan, also known as BK, for help in recovering the gold. However, the immoral and evil BK has plans of his own. As a desperate Sukumaran reaches his breaking point, he turns to Vettai Karuppu, a guardian deity whose idol stands within the court premises.
In response to Sukumaran’s prayers, Karuppusamy manifests in human form and confronts Baby Kannan to punish him. However, the cunning lawyer challenges the deity to reform the system without relying on his celestial powers.
Unable to deal with injustice effectively without his divine abilities, Karuppusamy resolves to put an end to the tyranny once and for all with the help of Preethi. At Preethi’s request, the deity grants a boon that makes it impossible for people to lie and discourages them from engaging in evil deeds.
After several back and forths, in the climactic confrontation, Baby Kannan attempts to move the system. However, the fear of Karuppusamy’s wrath continues to haunt every person. When he resorts to violence as a final measure, the deity assumes the avatar of Kaaval Karuppu, another guardian deity, and puts an end to his actions.
The film concludes with a post-credit scene teasing a sequel titled Karuppu vs Vellai, while also linking the movie to RJ Balaji’s other film, LKG.
