Rajinikanth praises Suriya starrer Karuppu
Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter India following the success of Karuppu, director RJ Balaji revealed how Rajinikanth appreciated the film. The filmmaker said, “Whenever a good film is released, Rajinikanth watches it and personally congratulates the film crew either in person or over the phone. He called me to congratulate me. In his signature style, he said, ‘Balaji, super…super…super, you have achieved it. What a huge hit! We will meet again soon.’”

Karuppu follows the story of Binu, a young girl, and her father, who travel to Chennai so that she can undergo surgery. However, during the night at a railway station, the duo is robbed of the gold they intended to sell to cover the medical expenses.
Although the gold is eventually recovered, they are forced to confront corrupt lawyers led by Baby Kannan. Desperate for help, the father prays to the guardian deity Karuppusamy, who takes human form to help them and reform the system.
Apart from Suriya, the film also stars Trisha Krishnan, RJ Balaji, Indrans, Anagha Maya Ravi, Natarajan Subramaniam, Swasika, Sshivada, and several others in key roles.
Suriya and Rajinikanth’s work front
Suriya will next be seen in the romantic drama Vishwanath And Sons. Directed by Venky Atluri, the film is said to revolve around a 40-year-old former international champion attempting a comeback despite his failing eyesight. The narrative centres on his complex relationship with Maddy, a vibrant woman 20 years younger than him, who falls in love with him, leading to emotional conflict.
With Mamitha Baiju as the co-lead, the film also features Radikaa Sarathkumar and Raveena Tandon in key roles. Vishwanath And Sons is slated to release in theatres on August 14, 2026, coinciding with the Independence Day weekend.
Looking ahead, the actor also has the tentatively titled Suriya47 in his lineup. Directed by Jithu Madhavan, the cop action-comedy stars Nazriya Nazim Fahadh and Naslen in prominent roles alongside him. The film is expected to wrap up shooting by the end of June 2026.
On the other hand, Rajinikanth will next appear in Jailer 2, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar. The action-comedy drama is reportedly scheduled for release in September 2026. The superstar also has projects like Thalaivar173 and KHxRK Reunion in his upcoming lineup.
