Karuppu, starring Suriya and Trisha Krishnan in the lead roles, was released in theaters on May 15, 2026. Directed by RJ Balaji, the fantasy action drama reportedly had several scenes deleted due to runtime constraints. Now, it appears that the makers may release those portions as part of an extended cut of the film.

Is Suriya’s Karuppu expected to get an extended cut including deleted scenes?

According to a report by Mid-Day, the makers are considering including the deleted portions from Karuppu in an extended version of the movie. However, this remains speculation for now, as no official confirmation has been made.

For those unaware, Karuppu had reportedly removed several scenes from its courtroom portions before the final theatrical release. Among the deleted content was an extended family court sequence that was said to add greater emotional depth to the protagonist’s personal struggles and relationships. While the makers never officially explained the cuts in detail, reports suggest the scenes were trimmed to maintain the film’s pacing and runtime.

Reportedly, the removed family court sequence featured emotionally intense moments involving Suriya’s character. Viewers who allegedly attended preview screenings described the deleted portions as powerful and impactful, suggesting they could have added significant weight to the emotional arcs.

While it was initially expected that the deleted scenes might be released digitally, reports now suggest that fans could get to experience them in theaters instead.

More about Karuppu

Karuppu begins with the story of a father and daughter who travel to Chennai so the latter can undergo surgery. However, during the night at a railway station, the duo is robbed of the gold they intended to sell to cover the medical expenses.

Although the gold is eventually recovered, they are forced to confront corrupt forces led by a lawyer named Baby Kannan. Desperate for help, the father prays to the guardian deity Karuppusamy, who takes human form to help them and reform the system. The film concludes with an epilogue hinting at a sequel titled Karuppu vs Vellai.

Apart from Suriya and Trisha Krishnan, the film also stars RJ Balaji, Indrans, Anagha Maya Ravi, Natarajan Subramaniam, Swasika, and Sshivada in key roles.
