Karuppu team issues apology for sarcastic scene towards Ilaiyaraaja
In an official update issued by the production team of Karuppu, Dream Warrior Pictures expressed its apology to anyone who was offended by the comment directed at Ilaiyaraaja.
The statement read, “Dream Warrior Pictures wishes to express its sincere respect and admiration for Maestro Mr. Ilaiyaraaja and his extraordinary contribution to Indian cinema and music, which has inspired generations and continues to hold a special place in the hearts of audiences across the world.”
They further added, “We understand that a particular dialogue appearing in Karuppu has caused concern and upset him. We sincerely regret that the dialogue resulted in such sentiments. There was absolutely no intention to offend, hurt, or disrespect Mr. Ilaiyaraaja, his contribution, or his rights in any manner. The reference formed part of a broader satirical context and was not conceived as a personal remark directed at him.”
In conclusion, the team stated that they deeply valued and respected his feelings and, as a gesture of regard, had decided to remove or modify the relevant portion in future versions and subsequent exploitations of the film. They also extended their sincere regards and added that they continued to hold him in the highest respect.
For those unaware, the controversy is related to a scene featuring the song Poradada from the 1985 film Alai Osai, following which a dialogue referencing Ilaiyaraaja appears. The dialogue seemingly took a dig at the musician’s multiple copyright claims against filmmakers over the alleged unauthorized use of his music.
