Kattalan: Marco’s Unni Mukundan denies any part in upcoming action thriller universe led by Antony Varghese Pepe
Kattalan is an action thriller which is touted to be part of a cinematic universe connecting it with the film Marco.
Kattalan, starring Antony Varghese, popularly known as Pepe, in the lead role, is slated to release on May 28, 2026. Directed by debutant Paul George and bankrolled by Cubes Entertainment, the film is said to share connections with the world of Marco, with several characters reportedly overlapping.
Now, Unni Mukundan, who appeared in Marco, has denied being part of any cinematic universe, issuing an update through his home banner, Unni Mukundan Films.
Unni Mukundan denies being part of Pepe’s Kattalan
Taking to its official social media handle, the production house released a statement denying Unni Mukundan’s involvement in the film. The statement read, “We would like to kindly clarify that Unni Mukundan is not a part of this project or any universe. We humbly request our fans and the public to refrain from questioning us further regarding any association with the concerned project.”
Kattalan revolves around a brutal ivory cartel war, following a man who finds himself caught between relentless greed and the untamed wilderness. The film is co-written and directed by Paul George, with music and background score composed by Ravi Basrur and B. Ajaneesh Loknath.
Apart from Antony Varghese, the film also stars Sunil, Kabir Duhan Singh, Parth Tiwari, Jagadish, Dushara Vijayan, Siddique, Raj Tirandasu, Shon Joy, and Anson Paul, among others, in key roles.
While more details about the film are yet to be revealed, Kattalan is touted to be a high-octane action thriller centered on ivory smuggling and vengeance. The makers have also confirmed that the film is set in the same cinematic universe as Marco.
Recently, the team issued an update confirming that the film will feature three different post-credit scenes, hinting that the story will continue as a franchise.
Unni Mukundan and Pepe’s work front
Unni Mukundan was last seen in the lead role in Mindiyum Paranjum. Looking ahead, the actor has lent his voice to Nicholas Galitzine, who plays Prince Adam, aka He-Man, for the Malayalam dubbed version of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. The film is slated to release on June 5, 2026.
Antony Varghese will next be seen in I'm Game, starring Dulquer Salmaan and directed by Nahas Hidayath. The upcoming film also stars Kathir, Mysskin, and Kayadu Lohar in key roles. It is touted to be a high-stakes action entertainer featuring DQ. The movie is set to release on August 20, 2026, coinciding with Onam this year.
Additionally, the actor also has Thottam - The Demesne in his lineup, in which he co-stars with Keerthy Suresh.
