KHxRK: Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan’s movie to begin shoot from 2027? Jailer actor to have lined up films for next 3 years
KHxRK is the upcoming Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan starrer movie, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar.
Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan are all set to join forces for the tentatively titled KHxRK. With the project confirmed to be helmed by Nelson Dilipkumar, recent reports suggest that the film may only go on floors in 2027.

According to online buzz shared by Movies Singapore, KHxRK is expected to begin production in 2027. Director Nelson Dilipkumar is currently occupied with Jailer 2, which is being planned for release in the final quarter of 2026. While the release date has not yet been finalized, September, Ayudha Pooja in October, and Diwali are reportedly being considered as potential release windows.
With the filmmaker focused on completing Jailer 2, it appears that his collaboration with the two superstars will only commence next year. Moreover, Rajinikanth is said to have mapped out his professional commitments for the next three years and is reportedly keen on supporting talented directors and emerging filmmakers by giving them opportunities.
Rajinikanth's next project is expected to be helmed by Dragon director Ashwath Marimuthu, with shooting likely to begin toward the end of June 2026. However, these reports remain speculative for now, and no official confirmation has been made by the makers.
Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan’s work front
Rajinikanth is next set to appear in Jailer 2. The sequel is expected to continue the story established in 2023's Jailer. Apart from the superstar, the film is expected to feature Mithun Chakraborty, Vidya Balan, SJ Suryah, and others in key roles, while Mohanlal and Shiva Rajkumar are set to reprise their characters from the first installment.
Looking ahead, the actor also has the tentatively titled Thalaivar173 in his lineup. The project was initially announced with Sundar C. as director, but the filmmaker later stepped away due to prior commitments. Cibi Chakaravarthi was brought on board as his replacement.
However, due to obligations with another production house, he too is rumored to have exited the project, with Ashwath Marimuthu expected to take over the directorial duties. While unconfirmed, the film is also rumored to feature Rajinikanth in the role of a doctor.
Meanwhile, Kamal Haasan is next set to appear in KH237, directed by stunt choreographer duo AnbAriv.
