Kalyani Priyadarshan-starrer Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra was released during Onam 2025 and emerged as a massive success at the box office. With the franchise set to continue through multiple installments, many have wondered whether the makers plan to make major changes following the overwhelming response. Here's what director Dominic Arun had to say.

Will Lokah undergo massive change with first instalment’s success?

In a recent interaction featuring Dominic Arun and co-writer Santhy Balachandran with Eunonians Beautiful Thinkers, the director emphasized that the franchise will continue according to the plans originally envisioned by the team.

The filmmaker said, “Not really any changes. We already had a structure for the story, and that won’t change. Now that we have introduced the world, we want to focus on how we can make it more exciting to watch and what new experiences we can offer compared to the first chapter. It is challenging, but I think we will be able to do it.”

More about Lokah

Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra, starring Kalyani Priyadarshan and Naslen in the lead roles, hit the big screens in 2025. Directed by Dominic Arun, the film follows the story of its titular character, a mysterious woman who is summoned from Sweden to Karnataka by Moothon (The Elder), the leader of a secret organization.

In Bengaluru, Chandra leads a quiet and secluded life, keeping a low profile while working night shifts at a café. Across from her apartment lives Sunny, a medical college dropout who shares a flat with his friends.

Infatuated with his new neighbour, Sunny develops feelings for Chandra, even though she remains distant. However, their lives take a dark turn when Chandra becomes entangled in a gang's sinister plans, ultimately revealing that she is the mythical being Kalliyankattu Neeli from Malayali folklore. How Neeli, along with her newfound companions and other mythical beings, overcomes the threats against them forms the central narrative of the story.

Apart from the lead actors, the film features Sandy Master, Arun Kurian, Chandu Salim Kumar, Raghunath Paleri, Vijayaraghavan, and several others in key roles.

The film also includes cameo appearances by Dulquer Salmaan and Tovino Thomas, while Mammootty lends his voice to Moothon. It was widely praised by critics for its performances, visuals, world-building, and storytelling.

Earlier, the makers announced that the sequel, Lokah Chapter 2, will be headlined by Tovino Thomas, who will reprise his role as Chaathan.
