Madhuvidhu Review: Sharaf U Dheen and Kalyani Panicker’s rom-com is breezy as it comes, offering pleasant experience

Madhuvidhu, starring Sharaf U Dheen in the lead role, was released in theaters on April 23, 2026. Directed by Vishnu Aravind, the romantic comedy is written by Bibin Mohan and Jai Vishnu.

The Plot

Madhuvidhu narrates the story of Amrutharaj, aka Ammu, a café owner who lives in an all-male household called Aanjalimoottil Tharavadu in Adoor, alongside his widowed father Rajkumar and bachelor uncle Ambarish. The family is considered cursed by the villagers, resulting in 28 failed marriage alliances for Ammu.

As Ammu falls in love with the spirited Sneha Markose, a relationship blossoms between two individuals from different backgrounds. However, as the interfaith couple prepares for marriage, unforeseen circumstances, complicated family dynamics, and the looming “curse” create several obstacles. The film explores whether Amrutharaj can finally marry the love of his life and break the curse once and for all.

What works in Madhuvidhu

Madhuvidhu works well because of its breezy narration and treatment. The writing is not groundbreaking, but the story succeeds because of the ease and simplicity it offers. The film carries a light humor that lands effectively and provides several laughs, making it an easy watch.

In the first half, Madhuvidhu progresses in a light-hearted manner without making a major impression initially. The family dynamics and budding romance gradually lead to the interval, where the main conflict begins to take shape.

While there are flaws in the screenplay, the performances, especially by Sharaf U Dheen and Jagadish, along with the humor, make the film an entertaining watch. On the technical front, the cinematography and editing are passable, but the music truly stands out.

What doesn’t work in Madhuvidhu

Madhuvidhu is highly humorous, but some of its conflicts are so weakly written that they require certain characters to act illogically or out of character. A series of such inexplicable situations, which fail to add emotional weight to the film, ends up diminishing much of the fun as well. Beneath all the confusion, one can still see the framework of a missed opportunity and the untapped potential the story carried.

In the latter half, Madhuvidhu lacks the emotional depth and connection it needs to fully engage the audience, making portions of it difficult to stay invested in.

The Performances

Sharaf U Dheen holds the film together with his humorous timing, witty one-liners, and light-hearted presence. Over the years, the actor has successfully balanced a variety of roles, from antagonists to lovable protagonists, proving himself to be a versatile performer.

Veteran actors like Jagadish and Sai Kumar further elevate the film, adding to its breezy and comedic nature. While debutant Kalyani Panicker does her best in her first feature film outing, Azees Nedumangad is a welcome addition to the film’s chaos and humor.

The Verdict

Madhuvidhu is a perfect choice for anyone looking for a breezy and entertaining film. Despite lacking emotional depth in certain portions, it still works well as an enjoyable OTT watch.
