Malayalam actor Salim Kumar rushed to hospital, likely on ventilator support; Report
Salim Kumar is a popular face in Malayalam cinema and is also a recipient of the National Award.
Salim Kumar, the popular Malayalam actor known for his numerous roles over the years, has reportedly been rushed to the hospital following a health scare. According to PTI, the National Award-winning actor is currently on ventilator support at a hospital in Ernakulam, Kerala.
Reportedly, Salim experienced discomfort on June 6, 2026, which led to his hospitalization. The actor had earlier revealed to the media that he had been dealing with health issues. Moreover, he had also undergone a liver transplant a few years ago.
For those unaware, Salim Kumar is a popular face in Malayalam cinema and has been an actor and comedian for several years. Hailing from North Paravur in Ernakulam, he began his career as a stage actor and initially appeared on the television comedy show Comicola.
The actor made his debut in Malayalam cinema with the 1997 family drama Ishtamanu Nooru Vattam, directed by Siddique Shameer. Since the 1990s, Salim has been part of several successful comedy films, carving a niche for himself in the world of humor. Some of his notable films include Udayapuram Sulthan, Thenkasipattanam, Ee Parakkum Thalika, Meesha Madhavan, CID Moosa, Mayavi, and many more.
Apart from Malayalam cinema, the actor has also appeared in Tamil, Odia, and Bengali films. In addition to being a successful actor, he has served as a director for films such as Compartment, Karutha Joothan, and Daivame Kaithozham K. Kumar Akanam.
The actor recently made a cameo appearance in the Dileep-led comedy action film Bha Bha Ba. Over the years, he has won numerous Kerala State Film Awards and also received the National Film Award for Best Actor in 2010 for Adaminte Makan Abu.
Directed by Salim Ahamed, the social drama featured Zarina Wahab, Mukesh, Kalabhavan Mani, Thampi Antony, Suraj Venjarammoodu, and more in key roles.
The actor is also the father of Chandu Salim Kumar, who is known for his performances in Lokah and Manjummel Boys.
