Mohanlal, Masthishka Maranam director Krishand to collab? Producer confirms film like ‘Chotta Mumbai’
Mohanlal and director Krishand have been making some buzz online for their possible collaboration, which seems to have been confirmed now.
Mohanlal and Masthishka Maranam director Krishand are set to collaborate on a new film, which will be written by Tiki Taka writer Niyog. The project is currently in the scripting stage and was confirmed by actor-producer Maniyanpilla Raju.
Producer confirms Mohanlal project with Krishand
Speaking with Mathrubhumi, producer Maniyanpilla Raju confirmed that the Mohanlal and Krishand project is underway. He added that the team aims to deliver a commercial entertainer in the style of Chotta Mumbai.
The actor-producer said, “When you have such an actor on hand, the most important thing is to have a really strong screenplay. The film will be a commercial entertainer in the likes of Chotta Mumbai. Niyog is penning the script, but he is currently busy with Tiki Taka. We have already begun the screenplay work, with the first draft complete. Now, it is in correction.”
Earlier, while speaking with The New Indian Express, filmmaker Krishand also confirmed the project and revealed that it would be a realistic detective comedy featuring the superstar alongside a sidekick character.
Mohanlal’s work front
Mohanlal was last seen in the lead role in Drishyam 3. Directed by Jeethu Joseph, the film is the third instalment in the thriller-drama franchise, with Meena, Ansiba Haasan, Esther Anil, Murali Gopy, Asha Sarath, Kalabhavan Shajon, and Siddique reprising their roles. Following its theatrical run, the film is currently streaming on Prime Video.
The actor is currently working on his next film, Athimanoharam, directed by Tharun Moorthy. The film stars Meera Jasmine as the female lead and is slated to release on December 24, 2026, during the Christmas holiday season. While further details about the project are yet to be revealed, Mohanlal is expected to portray a police officer.
Looking ahead, Lalettan has projects lined up with directors Vishnu Mohan and Priyadarshan. His collaboration with the Oppam director was initially expected to begin later this year. However, following revisions to the screenplay, the shoot has reportedly been postponed to 2027.
The superstar has also confirmed a project titled Nedukandam Miracle, which will be directed by Dileesh Pothan.
Mohanlal is also expected to make cameo appearances in Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Khalifa, Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2, and his daughter Vismaya Mohanlal’s debut film, Thudakkam.
