Mohanlal is all set to play the lead role in Drishyam 3, which is slated for release on May 21, 2026, coinciding with his birthday. Ahead of the film’s release, producer Antony Perumbavoor has confirmed that the superstar has another project lined up with director-actor Dileesh Pothan, while the Lucifer sequel is also reportedly in the pipeline.

Mohanlal to work with director Dileesh Pothan next?

In a recent conversation on X Spaces, Antony Perumbavoor revealed that Mohanlal will next appear in a lead role in a film directed by Dileesh Pothan. The upcoming project is reportedly set in a genre that is different from the kind of films both the actor and director have explored in the past. Moreover, Asif Ali is also expected to play a co-lead role.

In a recent interaction with the media, producer Shibu Baby John, who previously collaborated with Lalettan on Malaikottai Vaaliban, confirmed that he will bankroll the new project. Reportedly, the film is expected to begin production in December 2026, although it could be pushed to 2027 due to the superstar’s commitments to his upcoming project with Priyadarshan.

Additionally, Antony also confirmed that the third installment in the Lucifer franchise, L3: Azrael, remains in the plans, and the team intends to complete the trilogy in due course.

Mohanlal’s work front

Mohanlal is next set to play the lead role in Drishyam 3. Directed by Jeethu Joseph, the crime drama thriller takes place after the events of Drishyam and Drishyam 2, with Georgekutty and his family seemingly returning to normalcy.

However, despite managing to evade the police multiple times, Georgekutty continues to live with a lingering sense of paranoia over the crime he concealed to protect his family. With the protagonist’s emotional conflict expected to take centre stage this time, a new force may emerge in the story that could finally unravel all the secrets once and for all.

Alongside Mohanlal, the film also stars Meena, Ansiba Hassan, Esther Anil, Murali Gopy, Asha Sarath, Siddique, Veena Nandakumar, and others in key roles.

Looking ahead, Lalettan is currently filming his next release, Athimanoharam. Directed by Tharun Moorthy, the film is expected to hit theatres during the Pooja holiday season this year.
