Rashmika Mandanna to star in MS Subbulakshmi’s biopic?

According to 123Telugu, Rashmika Mandanna recently underwent a look test for the role of MS Subbulakshmi in the upcoming biopic at her residence. However, this remains a report for now, as no official confirmation has been made by the makers.

Previously, actresses Rukmini Vasanth and Sai Pallavi were rumored to be in consideration for the role before Rashmika’s name surfaced. Earlier this year, reports suggested that the Ramayana actress was actively involved in the project and had even begun preparing for the character by training in Carnatic music.

With an official confirmation still awaited, it will be interesting to see who ultimately takes on the iconic role.

Rashmika Mandanna’s work front

Rashmika Mandanna was last seen in the lead role in director Rahul Ravindran’s The Girlfriend. The film explores the emotional journey of Bhooma Devi, an introverted literature student who escapes her father’s oppressive control, only to find herself trapped in a manipulative and suffocating relationship with Vikram, a possessive “alpha male.”

Apart from Rashmika, the film also stars Dheekshith Shetty, Anu Emmanuel, Rao Ramesh, and others in key roles.

The actress is now gearing up for the release of her next film, Cocktail 2, co-starring Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon. The spiritual sequel to the 2012 hit Cocktail is said to explore another messy love triangle and is slated to hit theaters on June 19, 2026.

Looking ahead, Rashmika will star alongside her husband Vijay Deverakonda in the period action drama Ranabaali. Directed by Rahul Sankrityayan, the film follows the story of a fierce warrior from Rayalaseema in 18th-century India as he resists British rule. Reports suggest that only around 10% of the shoot remains, with the film scheduled for release on September 11, 2026.

Additionally, she also has the action film Mysaa in her upcoming lineup.
