Mohanlal is gearing up for the release of his next film, Drishyam 3, slated to hit theatres on May 21, 2026. Ahead of its release, the actor was recently seen in an interaction where he reacted to the character he played in Patriot amid a series of mixed reviews from audiences.

Mohanlal opens up about doing Patriot

Speaking with Galatta Plus, Mohanlal said, “I liked the film. This is, again, people drifting away from the character to the actor. It is there, and we cannot make a big issue out of that. But when they narrated the story, it felt very different, and I liked the film. This is a very secret recipe; we don’t know how it will turn out. But when I do a film, I do it with a lot of love and confidence. This is my job, and I have to be pretty sure about what I am doing. This is my commitment: when a role is given to me, I should do it with 100% sincerity and commitment. The success of a film cannot be predicted, not even for Drishyam 3.”

Continuing the conversation, Mohanlal reacted to why audiences accepted the tragic endings of his characters in films like Thanmathra and Thalavattam, while Patriot received backlash. The superstar underlined that those films had character development rooted in emotional connection. However, in Patriot, that may not have happened because it was a smaller role.

Mohanlal’s work front

Mohanlal is next set to play the lead role in the third instalment of the Drishyam franchise, titled Drishyam 3. Directed by Jeethu Joseph, the film will explore Georgekutty and his family becoming entangled in the consequences of their past actions, while also delving into the protagonist’s emotional turmoil.

Apart from Lalettan, the movie also stars Meena, Esther Anil, Ansiba Hassan, Asha Sarath, Veena Nandakumar, Murali Gopy, and Siddique in key roles. Initially slated for release on April 2, 2026, the film was later postponed to coincide with Mohanlal’s birthday.

Looking ahead, the actor will also star in Athimanoharam. Directed by Tharun Moorthy of Thudarum fame, the film is touted to be a cop action-comedy, with Meera Jasmine playing the co-lead.
