Peddi: Buchi Babu Sana apologizes for Janhvi Kapoor’s character portrayal, says ‘Never our intention to disrespect…’
After fans criticized Janhvi Kapoor's portrayal in Peddi, the director issued a public apology and promised to make the necessary changes in the film.
Director Buchi Babu Sana’s sports-action drama Peddi, starring Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor, took the box office by storm upon its release. However, the film quickly found itself in a massive controversy. Audiences and critics heavily called out the makers for the problematic portrayal of Janhvi Kapoor’s character, Achiyyamma. Now, the filmmaker apologised.

Minutes ago, Peddi director Buchi Babu Sana took to X (formerly Twitter) to share a lengthy, heartfelt note. Not only did he issue a sincere apology, but he also promised to make the necessary changes.
Reacting to the massive public outrage over the portrayal of Janhvi Kapoor’s character in the film, the filmmaker stated, “As a filmmaker, I believe cinema should entertain, inspire, and connect with audiences. It should never make anyone feel uncomfortable or disrespected. We have heard the feedback regarding certain scenes in Peddi and have taken it seriously.”
Addressing these glaring concerns, Sana added, “I have always had immense respect for women, both on and off screen, and it was never our intention to objectify or disrespect any female character. If any part of the film has been perceived that way, we respect those sentiments, understand the concerns being raised, and sincerely apologize.”
Taking the criticism constructively, the filmmaker assured fans that the team is actively working to alter the problematic scenes. “After reviewing the feedback, we have decided to make changes to the concerned portions. Cinema grows through its connection with audiences, and as storytellers, we have a responsibility to be mindful of evolving perspectives and sensitivities,” he announced.
Concluding his note, he reiterated his stance, adding, “Every woman deserves to be respected, valued, and represented with dignity. We remain committed to telling stories that celebrate strong characters and uphold those values. Thank you to everyone who shared their views honestly and sincerely."

While talking to SCREEN earlier, the director admitted he was caught completely off-guard by how negatively the romantic track was received.
“I had not anticipated that the scenes would be perceived so negatively by audiences. The idea was to showcase a playful romance story between Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor. However, we'll be more careful and make better representations,” he told the publication.
Peddi is led by Ram Charan, who is joined by Janhvi Kapoor, Shiva Rajkumar, Jagapathi Babu, Divyenndu, Boman Irani, Ravi Kishan, and others.
