Peddi, starring Ram Charan in the lead role, is slated to release in theatres on June 4, 2026. Directed by Buchi Babu Sana, the sports action drama was initially expected to feature Khushi Kapoor as the female lead instead of Janhvi Kapoor.

Not Janhvi Kapoor, but Khushi Kapoor was initially considered for Ram Charan’s Peddi?

Speaking to M9 News, director Buchi Babu Sana revealed that he had initially considered Khushi Kapoor for the co-lead role before eventually deciding to cast her sister, Janhvi Kapoor.

The filmmaker said, “I initially narrated the film to Khushi Kapoor. But once I saw her in person, I realised she was too young for the character. Now imagine having to reject Khushi and narrate the same film to Janhvi in the same house. I felt bad and asked Janhvi whether Khushi had taken offence.”

The director admitted that the situation was awkward, especially since both sisters were being considered within the same family. He further added, “I explained why I couldn’t cast her sister. I looked at Khushi, greeted her, and said, ‘I don’t want you in the film, I want your sister.’ But such decisions have to be made for the sake of cinema. From the very beginning, I felt this role would suit Janhvi. Even while narrating it to others, I would imagine her in the role.”

For those unaware, Janhvi Kapoor was first introduced as the character Achiyamma from Peddi. As she stars opposite Ram Charan in the film, this marks her second Telugu project after Jr NTR’s Devara.

More about Peddi

Peddi is said to revolve around a cricket tournament set against a rural backdrop. The promotional glimpses have also showcased Ram Charan in a rugged, pehelwan-like avatar with a heavily built physique.

Apart from Charan and Janhvi Kapoor, the film also stars Shiva Rajkumar, Divyenndu, Jagapathi Babu, and Boman Irani in key roles. Reports further suggest that the film will feature a special dance number composed by AR Rahman, with Shruti Haasan reportedly making a cameo appearance.

While unconfirmed, the movie’s 3rd single is expected to be unveiled on May 23, 2026. With just weeks away from release, the movie’s trailer will be out on May 18, 2026.
