In what has come as a good news to the fans of Malayalam writer Vaikom Mohammed Basheer, his short story titled Neelavelicham is all set to be adapted into a movie. Directed by Aashiq Abu, the film will have Prithviraj, Kunchacko Boban, Rima Kallingal and Saubin Shahir in the lead roles. Director Aashiq Abu, while wishing the writer on his 113th birth anniversary, announced the news on his social media space. 

Aashiq Abu said that filming will start by the end of 2021. Santosh T. Kuruvilla will bankroll the film, while Shyju Khalid will crank the camera. The music and background music will be composed by Bijibal and Rex Vijayan. It should be noted that the short story was already adapted into a movie and it was released in the year 1964. Titled Bhargavi Nilayam, Vincent directed the film. Prem Nazeer, Madhu and Vijaya Nirmala were the main actors. Produced by TK Parikkutty, the film became one of the biggest hits of all time in Malayalam.

Announcing the news on his Facebook space, Aashiq Abu wrote, “It has long been my dream to make Basheer’s ‘Neela Velicham’ a film, I am very proud and happy to share this news with you on the 113th birthday of Akshara Sultan. Heartfelt thanks to Basheer’s family. Neelavelicham’s shooting will start by the end of this year”. It is expected that more updates regarding the film’s cast and crew will be revealed in the coming days.
