Priyadarshan’s movie with Mohanlal postponed to 2027? Director to reunite with Akshay Kumar again
Priyadarshan had recently confirmed that he has stepped away from Hera Pheri 3, and now it seems his film with Mohanlal will move to 2027.
Director Priyadarshan and Mohanlal had earlier announced their next collaboration, which marks the filmmaker's 100th project. However, it now appears that the film has been postponed to 2027, with Priyadarshan eyeing another project with Akshay Kumar.
Priyadarshan’s 100th project with Mohanlal postponed to 2027?
Speaking to Mid-Day, a source revealed that Priyadarshan's film with Mohanlal was originally scheduled to begin production in October 2026. However, the script is currently undergoing revisions, pushing the project to 2027. The filmmaker also has a dramedy with Pankaj Tripathi in the pipeline, which is likewise undergoing script revisions.
The publication further reported that Priyadarshan himself confirmed that his next project will be with Akshay Kumar, marking their subsequent collaboration after Bhooth Bangla and Haiwaan.
Recently, Priyadarshan confirmed that he is no longer associated with Hera Pheri 3 and added that the film's release is now unlikely.
Earlier, Mohanlal shared an update about his next project, which marks Priyadarshan's 100th venture in cinema. Announcing the project, the actor said that some milestones do not belong to one person alone but to everyone who stood close enough to witness the journey.
He further said that his dearest "Priyan" was stepping into his 100th film and that he found himself at a loss for words to express what the milestone truly meant to him. According to Mohanlal, a hundred films were not just a number but represented a lifetime of stories told with passion, countless mornings driven by a belief in the magic of cinema, and a journey of unwavering dedication that he had the privilege of witnessing up close.
Previously, Mohanlal and Priyadarshan teamed up for Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham (Marakkar: Lion of the Arabian Sea), an epic historical drama that was released in 2021.
Mohanlal’s work front
Mohanlal was last seen in the lead role in Drishyam 3. Directed by Jeethu Joseph, the film is the third installment in the thriller-drama franchise, with Meena, Ansiba Haasan, Esther Anil, Murali Gopy, Asha Sarath, Kalabhavan Shajon, and Siddique reprising their roles from the previous films.
The actor is currently working on his next film, Athimanoharam, directed by Tharun Moorthy. The film features Meera Jasmine as the co-lead and is slated for release on December 24, 2026.
