The most expensive Indian film to date, 2.0 starring Rajinikanth, Akshay Kumar and Amy Jackson in lead roles, hit theatres in China last weekend. It released in more than 48,000 screens but failed to impress the audience. Directed by S. Shankar and produced by Subaskaran under the banner of Lyca Productions, the science fiction action film was one of the most anticipated films of 2018. Produced on an estimated budget of Rs 570 crore, it is the second highest-grossing film in India and is the sixth highest-grossing Indian film worldwide.

Sadly, according to reports, 2.0 was Shankar’s highest losing movie. Makers expected to make up for the losses by releasing the film in China, because Indian films such as Dangal and Secret Superstar have managed to do exceedingly well in the country. However, the Rajinikanth and Akshay starrer magnum opus saw a dull opening day and the collections did not see any growth on the first weekend. On day 3, the film managed to touch nearly $3 million, which is not a very good amount if compared to other films.

Surprisingly, S. S. Rajamouli's directorial Baahubali: The Beginning and Baahubali 2: The Conclusion starring Prabhas, which conquered the worldwide box office, had also failed to impress the movie watchers of China. Bollywood films other than Dangal and Secret Superstar which won hearts in the country are Irrfan Khan starrer Hindi Medium and Ayushmann Khurrana's National Award winning Andhadhun.
