Rajinikanth recalls ego-crushing incident

During a recent soul-stirring conversation with a spiritual leader, megastar Rajinikanth took a trip down memory lane to recount an incident from his past that gave him a massive reality check for his superstardom.

Recently, the actor attended an event where he spoke of the incident that crushed his ego. Thalaivar recalled how, at the peak of his fame, he expected to be recognized and revered everywhere. Hence, he was reluctant to join the sage for a tour of his ashram.

The Ra. One star didn’t want to create any disturbance. “I thought naturally people would be there, recognise me, shout my name, ask for a photo, and stuff. I also saw many people from Tamil Nadu,” Rajinikanth said at the event.

Thousands of people were gathered at the premises, but not even a single person looked at him. “Forget about photos and autographs; not even a single person looked at or spoke to me. I was waving, but no one looked at me. I have met many politicians and industrialists, but this incident crushed my ego,” admitted the Padma Vibhushan awardee.

When the guru assured him there would be no disturbance, Rajinikanth jokingly responded, “Idhar disturb ho gaya,” gesturing towards his head.

On the work front, the 75-year-old veteran has an impressive line-up of work in the pipeline. After the release of Coolie last year, he has now completed filming for Jailer 2. Helmed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the upcoming action-comedy film also stars S. J. Suryah, Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Mirnaa, Anna Rajan, Jatin Sarna, Suraj Venjaramoodu, and Vidya Balan.

Next up, he has Thalaivar 173, followed by the tentatively titled movie KHxRK with Kamal Haasan.
