Ranabaali: Vijay Deverakonda undergoes 6-month-long intense horseback training for period actioner
Ranabaali is an upcoming period action movie starring Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna in lead roles, directed by Rahul Sankrityan.
Ranabaali, starring Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna, is slated to release in theaters on September 11, 2026. Directed by Rahul Sankrityan, the period actioner’s glimpse showcased the Arjun Reddy actor dominating on horseback with finesse.
Now, we have learned that the actor had undergone a rigorous 6-month-long horse-riding training for the role.

According to a source close to the development, Vijay Deverakonda immersed himself in months of intense preparation, ensuring every aspect of his physical performance reflected the stature and conviction of his character.
The source said, “Vijay dedicated six months exclusively to horse-riding training. Starting from the basics, he mastered single-hand riding, full-speed galloping, and maintaining complete control during action sequences.” The source further added that the actor wanted to master the skill himself rather than rely on camera effects.
In an earlier BTS glimpse unveiled on his birthday, Vijay can be seen undergoing advanced horse-riding training under expert supervision. The actor is shown practising with stallions, which are considered among the most challenging horses to handle during action sequences.
The glimpse also features several rehearsal moments, highlighting the physical challenges Vijay faced while filming the intense scenes.
The upcoming film, Ranabaali, is reportedly based on real incidents that took place during British rule in the late 1800s, with him playing a fierce warrior. Alongside Rashmika Mandanna as the female lead, the film will also feature Arnold Vosloo in a key role. Interestingly, the film also marks Vijay and Rashmika’s first on-screen collaboration following their marriage.
Vijay Deverakonda’s work front
Vijay Deverakonda also has Rowdy Janardhana in his lineup, an action drama directed by Ravi Kiran Kola and co-starring Keerthy Suresh. The film is slated for a multilingual release in December 2026.
Additionally, Vijay has announced a new project with Shouryuv, best known for Hi Nanna. Tentatively titled VDxShouryuv, the film is reportedly expected to feature Kriti Sanon as the female lead. However, the makers have not made any official announcement regarding the casting.
The music will be composed by Hesham Abdul Wahab, marking his second collaboration with Vijay after Kushi, which also starred Samantha Ruth Prabhu.
