The Plot

Sing Geetham is set in Kuberapuram, a remote village ravaged by years of gold mining, where only one ancient tree remains. Gauri, its devoted guardian, shares a deep bond with nature and is determined to protect it.

When Prathap returns to reclaim his family's ancestral land for its hidden gold, he joins forces with the ambitious Renu, whose plans require cutting down the village's last remaining tree. Its destruction triggers a mysterious phenomenon that leaves the villagers communicating only through melody and song.

As Kuberapuram struggles to adapt, Prathap uncovers hidden truths about his family's past. His growing bond with Gauri and the villagers inspires him to rethink his priorities and help the community find a way to restore normalcy.

What works in Sing Geetham

Much like his previous films, Sing Geetham is another ambitious venture from director Singeetham Srinivasa Rao. The film explores a unique narrative in which every dialogue and emotion is expressed through music and song.

Whether it's happiness, anger, despair, or sorrow, every emotion is conveyed through musical expression. Although this storytelling device initially feels gimmicky, the narrative gradually draws viewers in, making the concept feel increasingly natural.

The film's experimental approach is its biggest strength. Rather than opting for a familiar formula, it embraces imagination and creativity. Much like Michael Madana Kama Rajan, Singeetham Srinivasa Rao crafts the film like a modern fable.

Another aspect that works well is the absence of larger-than-life heroes. Instead, the story focuses on ordinary people, some selfish, some benevolent, and all shaped by their circumstances. Their journeys add relatability to the narrative, giving the fantasy world an emotional grounding.

By weaving together elements of fantasy, folklore, humor, morality, magic, and the supernatural, the film also highlights the importance of living in harmony with nature, all within a richly musical world.

On the technical front, Devi Sri Prasad delivers a soundtrack that complements the film's unique storytelling. The songs blend seamlessly into the narrative and enhance the overall atmosphere.

What doesn’t work in Sing Geetham

While Sing Geetham is undoubtedly imaginative, it isn't without its flaws. Although the film remains engaging overall, certain portions move at a leisurely pace, causing the narrative to lose momentum.

The technical aspects are largely effective, but the visual effects occasionally fall short, slightly affecting the overall viewing experience.

The Performances

Sing Geetham features a cast led primarily by newcomers, with Ayaan making his acting debut. Previously an indie singer, he draws on his musical background, conveying emotion effectively in a film where singing plays a central role.

Ahilya Bamroo also leaves a strong impression as Gauri. Despite not being fluent in Telugu in real life, she delivers a charming and sincere performance that makes the character instantly likable.

The Verdict

Sing Geetham is an entertaining film that blends fantasy with meaningful social commentary through an unconventional musical narrative. While viewers who are not fond of musicals may find it less appealing, the film is a worthwhile watch for those looking for something fresh and imaginative.
