Silambarasan TR and director Ashwath Marimuthu are set to collaborate for the tentatively titled STR51 after wrapping up current commitments.
Silambarasan TR is currently filming his next release, Arasan, with director Vetrimaaran. While the actor has already announced his next venture, tentatively titled STR51, it appears that the film will only go on floors in 2027.
STR51: Silambarasan TR and Ashwath Marimuthu to work on the next film from February 2027?
Speaking to Indiaglitz, STR51 co-producer Archana Kalpathi confirmed that Ashwath Marimuthu has completed the screenplay for the film. The team plans to begin production as soon as STR and Ashwath wrap up their current commitments, with filming expected to commence in February 2027.
In an earlier interview, the director revealed that his fantasy project with Silambarasan will revolve around the concept of paradise and feature multiple female co-leads, with actor Santhanam playing a key role.
For those unaware, Ashwath Marimuthu is also said to have begun work on the tentatively titled Thalaivar173, starring Rajinikanth in the lead role. Following the exit of director Sundar C and later Cibi Chakaravarthy from the project, the makers are said to have roped in the Dragon director. Reports suggest that the filmmaker has requested the producers not to make an official announcement until he presents the final draft of the screenplay and production officially begins.
With the Rajinikanth starrer likely targeting a summer 2027 release, it appears that the filmmaker may take some time before commencing his project with STR.
Silambarasan TR’s work front
Silambarasan TR was last seen in a lead role in Thug Life, alongside Kamal Haasan. Directed by Mani Ratnam, the action drama revolved around the rivalry between an ageing man and his foster son after a misunderstanding drove them apart.
Apart from Kamal Haasan and STR, the film also featured Trisha Krishnan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Abhirami, Ashok Selvan, Joju George, Nassar, Mahesh Manjrekar, and several others in pivotal roles. The movie received an underwhelming response from both critics and audiences and is currently streaming on Netflix.
Looking ahead, STR is currently filming Arasan, directed by Vetrimaaran. The gangster actioner is set within the Vada Chennai cinematic universe and serves as a spin-off of the Dhanush-starrer. Co-starring Vijay Sethupathi, the film also features Tourist Family fame Yogalakshmi and Chaitra J. Achar in key roles. Additionally, Priyanka Arul Mohan is expected to play a crucial part in the film.
