Karuppu, starring Suriya and Trisha Krishnan in the lead roles, was released in theaters on May 15, 2026. Directed by RJ Balaji, the fantasy action drama is enjoying a successful run at the box office, and now Suriya himself has reacted to the possibility of the film’s sequel.

Is Suriya’s Karuppu sequel on cards?

Suriya was recently seen at a meet-and-greet event with fans following the massive reception for Karuppu. During the interaction, the actor was asked whether the sequel had been confirmed, to which he replied, “Nambikai thaan sir vazhkai” (Belief is life, sir). It appears that the film’s success could eventually lead to a sequel.

Interestingly, director RJ Balaji had also confirmed during a recent media interaction that a sequel is indeed in the works.

During the meet-and-greet, Suriya added that he had agreed to the project just half an hour after hearing the narration, making it a rare occurrence for him. The actor said, “Karuppu was decided in 30-45 minutes. I’ve never signed a film that quickly in recent times. I’ve also never seen this kind of response for my films in recent years. It’s receiving unanimous love worldwide. Thank you, everybody.”

Moreover, he revealed that the climax dance sequence was conceived after the final edit had already been locked. The actor said, “The Karuppu climax was shot after the edit was locked five months ago. Even after filming was completed, one of the assistants suggested adding a song dedicated to Karuppasamy despite the financial hurdles.”

Desperate for help, the father prays to the guardian deity Karuppusamy, who takes human form to help them and reform the system for the better.
