Thalapathy Vijay and Sangeetha Sornalingam made headlines earlier after reports claimed that the couple was seeking a divorce. Now, it appears that there has been no major update on the matter.
Thalapathy Vijay and Sangeetha Sornalingam’s divorce pushed further?
According to India Today, an important development regarding Vijay and Sangeetha's divorce was expected on June 15, 2026. However, there were no major developments, decisions, or resolution between the two sides. It now appears that the matter has been pushed to August 7, 2026.
Reportedly, both the former actor and his wife were present in person. However, this information is based on media reports, and no official statement has been made.
For those unaware, Thalapathy Vijay and Sangeetha Sornalingam got married on August 25, 1999. Sangeetha is a Sri Lankan Tamil and the daughter of a wealthy entrepreneur.
The couple tied the knot in both Hindu and Christian ceremonies, honoring their respective family traditions and customs. During their nearly 27-year marriage, they became parents to two children, Jason Sanjay and Divya Sasha.
Earlier, reports claimed that Sangeetha had filed for divorce from the actor. She had also reportedly sought financial support and residential rights over their matrimonial home.
According to reports, the couple's last meeting took place on November 9, 2025, but did not result in a resolution. It was further claimed that Sangeetha stated the marriage had broken down beyond repair and existed only on paper.
It was initially scheduled to be taken up on April 20. However, both Vijay and Sangeetha were absent on that date and were represented by their respective representatives. Following their absence, they were reportedly asked to be present in person on June 15. While both are said to have attended, the matter has once again been pushed further.
Thalapathy Vijay’s work front
After announcing his retirement from acting, Thalapathy Vijay is yet to make his final big-screen appearance with Jana Nayagan. Directed by H. Vinoth, the action drama stars Bobby Deol, Pooja Hegde, and Mamitha Baiju in key roles.
Initially slated for a Pongal 2026 release, the film was reportedly postponed due to pending certification. While several reports suggested that the movie could arrive around Vijay's birthday on June 22, 2026, no official announcement has been made so far.
