Dhanush and director Vetrimaaran are reuniting for Thamizh Murugan, based on Arivumathi's novel of the same name. The makers have officially unveiled the film's first look online.

Thamizh Murugan First Look

Sharing the official first look, Dhanush wrote, "The Eternal Protector, warrior, THE KING & LEADER of the Thamizh people and lands. Son of Kottravai. THAMIZH MURUGAN."

With Vetrimaaran at the helm, Thamizh Murugan is set to explore the story of Lord Murugan. Sai Abhyankkar has come on board to compose the songs and background score, marking his first collaboration with the Vada Chennai director.

Interestingly, Jr NTR and director Trivikram Srinivas recently announced their collaboration on a project centred on the same figure, exploring the concept of the "God of War." The tentatively titled NTRxTrivikram is reportedly being mounted on a massive budget, with Anirudh Ravichander composing the songs and background score.

Meanwhile, Sivakarthikeyan's Seyon is also expected to draw from the same lore. With multiple films exploring a similar theme, it will be interesting to see how each project is brought to the screen.

Dhanush’s work front

Dhanush was last seen in the lead role in Kara, an action thriller directed by Vignesh Raja. The film follows Karasamy, a reformed thief who is forced by difficult circumstances to return to his old ways in an attempt to reclaim his mortgaged ancestral land and fulfil his father's final wish.

Alongside Dhanush, the film stars Mamitha Baiju, KS Ravikumar, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Karunaas, and Jayaram in prominent roles. It received mixed-to-positive reviews from critics and is currently streaming on Netflix following its theatrical run.

Looking ahead, the actor is currently filming Om, directed by Rajkumar Periasamy. The film also stars Mammootty, Sreeleela, Sai Pallavi, and Naseeruddin Shah in key roles and is slated for a theatrical release on October 16, 2026.

Featuring songs and a background score by Sai Abhyankkar, Om has been confirmed as the first installment in a planned franchise.

Meanwhile, Vetrimaaran is currently working on his next release, Arasan, starring Silambarasan TR.
