Varanasi: SS Rajamouli confirms 80 days shoot left for Mahesh Babu starrer’s wrap-up; Action scenes completed

Varanasi, starring Mahesh Babu, Prithviraj Sukumaran, and Priyanka Chopra Jonas, is slated to release in theaters on April 7, 2027. As the film continues to be in production, it appears that the makers have around 80 more days of shooting left before wrapping it up.

SS Rajamouli confirms 80 days of shooting remain for Mahesh Babu’s Varanasi

Director SS Rajamouli attended the release event of RRR in France, where he shared an update on the progress of Varanasi. During his interaction, the filmmaker confirmed that around 80 days of shooting are still pending.

The director said, “My producer is right there, so he wouldn’t let me reveal too much. I can say that we have finished the major action spectacle portions of the film and we just have small portions which will be wrapped up in 80 days.”

In a recent interview, the filmmaker also revealed that the team is likely to complete the shoot by September or October 2026.

Varanasi is an upcoming epic time-travel adventure film that follows a Shiva devotee on a perilous quest across time to uncover a lost cosmic artifact of immense power. As he unravels ancient secrets hidden across the centuries, he discovers that the very force guiding his mission is a calculating mastermind with a vision of global domination.

In addition to playing the lead role, Mahesh Babu has confirmed that he will also portray Lord Rama in one of the film’s episodes. The project is being mounted on a massive scale, with more details about the cast yet to be announced.

Earlier, there was speculation that the movie would be released as a two-part project. However, SS Rajamouli has since confirmed that it will be released as a single film with a runtime of around three hours.

Additionally, SS Rajamouli recently made headlines after comments sparked speculation about Baahubali 3. In the documentary series Baahubali: The Torchbearer, Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, and Anushka Sharma hinted at the possibility of a third installment in the franchise. However, no further updates have been shared so far.
