When Rajinikanth recalled a 60-year-old man's angry reaction to him romancing Aishwarya Rai in Robot
During a promotional event, Rajinikanth recalled how an elderly man wasn't happy with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan starring opposite him in the 2010 movie, Robot.
When director Shankar brought together megastar Rajinikanth and global beauty Aishwarya Rai Bachchan for the 2010 sci-fi magnum opus Robot (Enthiran), it became an instant cinematic phenomenon. While their on-screen chemistry as Vaseegaran and Sana won millions of hearts, the pairing initially raised quite a few eyebrows due to the age gap.
Rajinikanth recalled a man’s disappointment with him romancing Aishwarya Rai
Years ago, during the music launch of his film Robot (Enthiran), Rajinikanth left the audience in splits by recalling a hilarious encounter with a 60-year-old man who wasn’t pleased by Thalaivar playing Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's romantic interest.
During his speech at the event, Rajinikanth shared a witty anecdote from his visit to Bengaluru, where he was staying at his brother’s house. A Rajasthani tenant, who lived nearby, came to visit the superstar upon finding out he was in town.
When the man, aged 60-plus, noticed Rajinikanth's casual appearance, he was quite surprised. Rajinikanth vividly remembered the conversation that followed when he told the neighbor about his upcoming film.
“He asked me what film I was doing," the Jailer 2 actor recalled. "I told him, Robot. He then asked who the heroine was, and I told him it was Aishwarya Rai. He was shocked. He looked at me and asked, 'Aishwarya Rai? Heroine? Then who is the hero?'"
When Rajinikanth calmly replied that he was indeed the hero of the film, the neighbor's reaction was priceless.
“For 10 minutes he was there; he didn’t speak a single word. He stared at me and then walked away saying, 'What happened to Aishwarya Rai? What happened to Abhishek Bachchan? And what happened to Amitabh Bachchan?' Heroine with him?" Rajinikanth shared, sending the star-studded audience into laughter. Thalaivar took the opportunity to publicly thank Aishwarya for agreeing to do the film.
Despite the initial scepticism from a few, Robot went on to shatter massive box office records across India and globally. The pairing of Rajinikanth’s charisma and Aishwarya’s charm became a major highlight of the film.
