A tremendous display of bowling and batting on Saturday helped India end their league stage of ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 on a dominating note. The Men in Blue outplayed Sri Lanka at Headingley by 7 wickets, adding two more points to their tally.

 

Earlier, while batting first, Sri Lanka found themselves in real trouble from the word go. India’s bowling spearhead was in an exceptional touch. He made life hard for batsmen at the crease, removing both openers in quick succession. The wickets kept falling, reducing Lankans to 55-4. To rescue his team, the experienced campaigner, Angelo Mathews played a gem of an innings. 

 

The right-handed batsman scored a fabulous hundred and he was well supported by Lahiru Thiramane who also struck a half-century. The duo helped Sri Lanka post a fighting total of 265 runs on board. Bumrah finished with the figures of 10-2-37-3. 

 

Chasing the target, India started strongly. Openers, Rohit Sharma and Kl Rahul continued their good touch from the last match. They formed a monstrous stand of 189 runs to almost rule Sri Lanka out of the game.

 

Rohit scored his third consecutive 100 while Rahul also went on to cross the hundred-run milestone. Former departed after scoring 104 runs and the latter struck 111 runs. Lastly, skipper Virat Kohli played unbeaten 34-run cameo to take India home with 7 wickets in hand and 39 balls to spare.
