During West Indies' clash with Sri Lanka at Chester-le-Street on Monday in the World Cup 2019, bowler Shannon Gabriel was hit in the eye with a bail. He was lucky enough to not get injured.

In the second ball of the 35th over Angelo Mathews pulled a Gabriel delivery to deep mid-wicket. The throw from deep was a direct hit, and the bails dislodged to hit Gabriel in the eye, who was standing next to the stumps.

After West Indies skipper Jason Holder won the toss and chose to bowl, the Asian country scored 338 for 6 in their 50 overs. Avishka Fernando, coming in at number 3, top-scored with his maiden hundred.

It must be remembered that South Africa's Mark Boucher was hit in the eye while wicket-keeping, and he lost vision in 2012. He had to immediately announce his retirement immediately and had to undergo a surgery to get back his vision.
