The ICC World Cup 2019 ended with England as the champions but it was India who were the most favoured team on Twitter during the quadrennial event. Twitter India released how the official handles of all teams fared during the competition, and @cricketworldcup and @icc went over to garner over 60 million views.

The hashtag #CWC19 went on to generate 31 million tweets from May 20 to July 15, which is an increase of more than 100% if we compare how the #CWC15 hashtag fared against the #CWC19 hashtag four years earlier.

The most talked about tweet during the event  were the ones that involved Virat Kohli thanking his fans for the continued support during the World Cup, and the ones that spoke of the skipper meeting his 87-year old fan Charulata Patel.

The most talked about contest on Twitter, was unsurprisingly, the #IndvsPAK contest, which saw over 2.9 million tweets. The second most talked about game on Twitter was the final between #EngvsNZ and the third was India's semi-final against New Zealand that had the hashtag #IndvsNZ.

India's wicketkeeper @msdhoni was the most talked about player on Twitter during the World Cup, while Kohli was the most tweeted about skipper.
