Actor and director Amol Palekar was stopped midway through his speech by the director of NGMA on Friday. He was talking at the inaugural event of the exhibition which was called Inside the Empty Box, an event organized in memory of Prabhakar Barwe. The event was organised by Bodhana Arts and Research Foundation. Not once, but Amol Palekar was interrupted multiple times during his speech when he criticised the Ministry of Culture for their decision of disbanding the advisory committees of the art gallery at their various centres.

If that's not enough, the NGMA director not only interrupted his speech but he also forced him to finish it off before time. During the speech, Amol Palekar, who is also an artist himself, spoke about the freedom at the gallery. He had criticised the gallery for the limitation in terms of the space for exhibitions other than its own collections. It was until October 2018 that there was an active advisory committee having local artists responsible for deciding which exhibitions will be held at Mumbai and Bengaluru but they are now handled by the Ministry instead. The decision of dissolving the committee was taken by the Ministry and he went on to criticse this decision of the dissolution.

These were the things that Amol Palekar highlighted in his speech and was ultimately asked to stop by the curator of the show, also an ex-committee member, Suhas Bahulikar and the present director of NGMA, Anita Rupavataram.
