After speaking up with regards to incidents of mob violence in the country, Naseeruddin Shah has now expressed concerns in a video shared by Amnesty India about ‘crackdown’ on freedom of expression in India and walls of hate being erected in the name of religion. He says in the video that those who demand their rights are being locked away and artists are being stifled. He shares that journalists are being silenced and innocents are being killed.

“Had we dreamt of a country where there is no space for dissent? Where only rich and powerful are heard, and where the poorest and most vulnerable are forever oppressed? Where there once was law, there is now only darkness,” he says in the video. His previous comments about fearing for his children had created a controversy with many political leaders issuing statements against him.

He responded to how his earlier statements created an outrage and shared in the video posted by Amnesty, “The country is awash with horrific hatred and cruelty. And those who stand against this injustice are having their office raided, their licence cancelled, their bank accounts frozen, their voice silenced. Only so that they are deterred from speaking the truth.”

in india no one, absolutely no one has time to think about religion, everyone is busy earning money and even more money and live a lavish life, if anyone is talking about religion mean they are idle with no responsibilities

But its true, many activists journalists students professors have been arrested trolled harrassed threatened attacked for criticising the government...mob violence, attacks against women are all on the rise...at least naseer has the guts to say something...

No common person is feeling this. Naseer wants common person;s views supressed and expects privllege treatment for himself.
tat doesnt happen anymore so he is upset.

We as common men in India have never faced or had problems with each other’s religions
On a Hindu festival day say Ganesha chatrurti we buy flowers etc from Muslim vendors
We are together co existing in harmony
Don’t corrupt young minds who are in aw of you
So please don’t make use of this dirty controversial statement

Yah go and see how babri masjid was demolished!
