Virat Kohli unlikely to be rested for West Indies tour; will captain the side as well
Cricketer Virat Kohli is unlikely to be rested for the tour to West Indies, and will play all the games that are scheduled, according to reports. The series commences from August 3, and includes 3 T20Is, 3 ODIs and 2 Tests.Â
Earlier, reports had emerged that Kohli, along with seamer Jasprit Bumrah will be rested for the T20Is and the ODIs, keeping in mind their hectic schedule. However, it seems that the Indian skipper is eager to start the turnaround of Indian cricket immediately, after they were knocked out of the World Cup 2019 in the semis against New Zealand.Â
The Indian middle order has been a bone of contention for a while now, with players unable to settle in and make a name for themselves. At least three youngsters are expected in the middle order for the series against Windies, with players like Kedar Jadhav, Dinesh Karthik and MS Dhoni - who were a part of the World Cup - likely to be exluded.Â
Kohli has had a non-stop run since India's tour to Australia late last year. He then played against New Zealand in January, though he was rested for the final two ODIs and the T20I series that followed. He returned to play the ODIs against Australia at home in March, before playing a stressful IPL, where his team failed to qualify for the semis.Â
Just ten days after the IPL ended, the Indian team departed for England to play the World Cup.Â
