The Men in Blue who has been in an exceptional form throughout the tournament lost the semi-finals match against New Zealand, crushing their hopes of the World Cup trophy. Even though the team managed to restrict the New Zealand batter to a decent target of 239 runs, the team’s batting collapsed against the Kiwis bowlers.

India’s top order failed miserably in this run chase and the top three managed to get only one run in this must win clash against the Black Caps. However, it was Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya’s partnership in the middle that provided the team stability in the middle, which was later followed by Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni.

The 21 year old Rishabh Pant, who was included in the Indian squad in the middle of the tournament, showcased brilliant stability in a high pressure situation of an important clash. He smashed 32 runs off 56 deliveries, in a situation where wickets were falling at constant intervals. However, the former English cricketer criticised the Indian cricketer and tweeted as, “How many times have we seen @RishabPant777 do that?????!!!!! The very reason he wasn’t picked initially! Pathetic!”

The former Indian cricketer and the man who played an integral role in India’s 2011 World Cup triumph, Yuvraj Singh defended Rishabh and mentioned that it is not his fault and he will learn and get better. Yuvraj Singh tweeted as, “He’s played 8 Odis ! It’s not his fault he will learn and get better it’s not pathetic at all ! However we all are entitled to share our opinions.”
