Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar has praised Yuvraj Singh on his retirement and believes that he is the most elegant left-hander to have represented India. Shoaib Akhtar, who is active on social media has posted a video on his YouTube channel calling Yuvraj "A rock-star, a match winner, a great junior and a very good friend of mine". He also recalled the first time when they faced off against each other at Centurion in a World Cup game in 2003. "He played a very good knock and I always found him as an elegant batsman. He's a Punjabi and speaks our language," the Rawalpindi Express added.

Yuvraj Singh too showed his gratitude to this video by tweeting, "Thanks payan for ur lovely wishes. Trust me Everytime u ran into bowl at me it was terrifying ! Had to gather a lot of courage to face u. We had some great battles will always cherish those moments"
