The Hollywood Reporter (US)
"Director-producer Yash Chopra's film -- his final project before he died -- delivers not only the romance and human touch, but also reflects a modern sensibility.
But the film, the 80-year-old director-producer’s final project before he died Oct. 21, hits the right notes and delivers not only the romance and human touch that has made Chopra a brand name, but also reflects a modern sensibility.
Sharma is, as always, warm and expressive; while Kaif, though not an acting heavyweight, nevertheless delivers a charismatic and physical performance, especially in a riveting modern dance number set only to pounding drums. Khan is the star folks came to see: his performance, which veers between forced ebullience and convincing vulnerability, is one of the strongest of his career.
Jab Tak Hai Jaan is no Hurt Locker — it’s a flat-out masala film with over-the-top emotions and situations. But its credit list includes both an explosives expert and a choreographer. Beat that, Kathryn Bigelow."

Twitch Films (International)
"The film doesn't completely collapse like the house of cards that it is, instead it is saved by an unusually strong performance from Shah Rukh Khan as our lovelorn lead, Samar Anand, and a bouncy and rousing performance from Anushka Sharma, who is quickly becoming one of my favorite mainstream actresses simply for the energy she brings to every role.
The bottom line is this: if you like Bollywood melodrama, Jab Tak Hai Jaan may be the film for you. I do, and so the above mentioned faults, major though they might be, are merely bumps in the road that don't derail my emotional investment in the film.
Yash Chopra was never one to make subtle films, and his history, dare I say mastery, of bombast is unparalleled in Bollywood. Just when you think a moment has reached its emotional peak, leave it to Yashji to throw in a couple more corkers just to make sure he wrings every last tear from your poor dehydrated carcass, and I'll be goddamned if it didn't work on me more than once.
Yash Chopra was never one to shy away from hot button items. Whether it was infidelity in the Amitabh Bachchan starring Silsila, stalkers in the masterful Darr, also featuring SRK, or the interminable divide between India and its mortal enemy, Pakistan, in Veer-Zaara, Chopra was always keen to give the audience something to chew on, and I think that in spite of the updating of sexual mores in Jab Tak Hai Jaan, he plays it rather safe with the content.
Ultimately what I came away with, after all nits have been picked, is a deeply resonant emotional experience helped by an incredibly strong performance by a movie star who actually shows some acting chops for the first time in a while. Jab Tak Hai Jaan is by no stretch Yash Chopra's finest work, however, it is a fine coda to a long career spent giving the people what they want, which is a little bit of everything and a lot of tragic romance."

Gulf News (UAE)
"The legendary filmmaker, who died last month, has stuck with his tried and tested formula of weaving fantastical love stories.
As always, there are intense lovers, beautiful London and Ladakh locales and bucket loads of emotions flying all around.
Sharma steals the show with her bold act. If you were to compare the two women: Kaif plays the archetypal ethereal, unattainable Yash Raj heroine, however it’s difficult to relate to her and her child-like beliefs. Sharma’s character was more grounded and modern. In the end, don’t beat yourself if you find yourself rooting for Samar and Akira who enjoy fabulous chemistry rather than the born-to-be-together soulmates Meera and Samar.
Once again, Khan lives up to his description of being the king of on-screen romance. Trust him to make star-crossed lovers look fashionable. Watch Jab Tak Hai Jaan if you are in the mood for an never-say-never love saga."

A Nutshell Review (Singapore)
"And what a sprawling love epic this is, spanning two different decades with the promise of a romance that goes unrequited on either end, combined with plenty of lovelorn moments that would keep you guessing who will end up with whom if at all, in this romantic triangle that only Yash Chopra can weave, and yet enticing you to hang in there even if you've seen almost all of his works. Nicely crafted into a solid three act structure lasting close to three hours, this film takes its time to put its three main characters through the paces, allowing emotional investment into all of them, that reap benefits when you too get drawn into their plight, and wonder how the chess pieces would move for the best possible outcome.
Shah Rukh Khan once again shows why he's one of the leading men in Bollywood, with his fine all round performance. Between the two leading ladies, it is difficult to pick who actually had an edge over the other, but if it's a personal choice, I'd give my vote to Anushka Sharma if only for her assured portrayal of a bubbly personality who knows what she wants and is a go getter, being in for a challenge when encountered with emotions she has yet to handle, compared to the more indecisive character that Katrina perfectly portrayed, in what would be a classic Yash Chopra model of the unattainable femme fatale responsible for the total breaking of hearts.
Cinematography is great, as you would come to expect from a Yash Raj production, with lush costumes, glossy production and art design, sets and locales being nothing but the best to put you in the mood for love, and love lost or broken. Music by none other than A.R. Rahman also lifts the film into epic greatness, befitting a contemporary love story of our time. If anything, Yash Chopra's parting gift through his films, and this one in particular, is a reminder to keep the faith, that love will come in good time, and to remember to live life, not be afraid of it. A definite must watch backed by all the right reasons."

Daily Times (Pakistan)
"The King of Romance behind the camera directing the Badshah of Romance in front of the camera. And a script that boasts of solid, undying love. No, there cannot be a better way to portray love on the silver screen. ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ has nailed that – at least for the immediate future. Shahrukh Khan, you don’t really need words of praise or adulation; but go ahead and take a bow! With Samar Anand, the actor has brought another Raj Malhotra alive on screen. And a newer, better, improved version at that. One who doesn’t know how not to love; one who instills in every heart the hope to be able to love – love unconditionally, love that doesn’t know its limitations. Sounds like I’m just out of a Yash Chopra movie? Yes, this had to be the one.
Speaking about Shahrukh’s performance is nothing short of belittling the consummate actor’s skills. Khan knows how to make his ladies fall for him – be it that they are almost half his age! Katrina Kaif as the NRI Meera does a pretty good job of playing the girl who is torn between loves and promises; and her accented Hindi passes off as acceptable. Anushka Sharma acts well; however, she does dwindle to the extra-carefree attitude that she has been able to put her signature on in the last few films. But Shahrukh, yes. He is, indeed, the man to watch out for.
Cut to direction. Only somebody like Yash Chopra could have made those mesmerising locales of Pehalgam and Ladakh come alive on celluloid. London, on the other hand, is beautiful – be it in winter, rain or summer. The film doesn’t really have the sarees flying slo-mo in the air, but what it has is sheer, pristine beauty. However, the film appears a tad too long; at almost three hours, the ‘impatient, newer generation’ might have to stretch themselves a bit."

I agree katrina is nt a gud actor. But d way she is improving is amazing. No one can do the dance moves like she did in a scene in the movie. Nd above ol, dis ws her career best performance. She tried do to justice 2 d charactr.
Anushka n srk r gud, as always.
Some people r saying pc should hav been in this movie but i dnt tink so. D way katrina seemed like a princess, a classic n beautiful heroine, priyanka jus cnt match upto her. That is why yash ji casted kat instead of pc. Though priyanka acts gud, bt she is nt beautiful lyk kat.

We are so cool...and know the magic of cinema and great acting. Way to go overseas:)))

We are so cool...and know the magic of cinema and great acting. Way to go overseas:)))

Overseas rocks big time...simply because they don't have biased or agenda behind their likings and disliking. Even the people there are more chill out and want to expire nice heart felt good cinema.

Srk has more fans overseas than india.

I loved the film!! SRK rocked, Katrina looked beautiful and unattainable and Anushka made us smile and feel for her (strong girl who can't for once have what she wants but takes it sportingly!).. yes, there were some serious illogical parts to the movie, but do you really watch a YRF for realistic, probable scenarios? it's all about the magic of love, romance, songs, dialogues and most importantly, SRK and his eyes!!! and it was all there.. so romantic and lovely! thumbs up!

so disappointing movie!! katrina, aushka were good.. the story is sooo disappointing! i'll only give 1.5 out of 5. its a hit simply because its yash chopra's last movie. nthng special!

I watch the movie and loved it even though I didn't get the same reaction I did for "Dil To Pagal Hai" or "Veer Zara". I think Kat did okay but I think if there was someone like PC or Kareena to play her role people would have been in love with the movie. There was a lack of genuine emotion for Kat. It seemed a bit fake. Anushka was excellent in the few emotional scenes she had and that's what made people love her. It came across as real. Overall I like the movie but i think it would have been so much better if there was some else to match SRK's strong emotions.

How hard is it to play a bubbly loud character???? That doesnt take much!!! People r like that all the time anyway..

Its harder to play a serious character!

And i think katrina done that perfectly..,

So what if she has a bit of a hitch in her hindi...just in case u didnt realise she is playing a girl in uk living born and bred there...she will not talk hindi like anushka in the film..thats the whole point...she is not a freshy so she cannot sound like one...

Thats why they made srk sound more like a freshy so they coukd show how opposite kat and srks characters were...

God people r just so dum! Ur calling kat for bing stupid when she is doing perfectly what she has been asked to do and personify! Peopel r never happy..,and that just shiws u r a hater

Lol at these international critics...

International critics should not be taken seriously..

They dont even have info about bwood...they hire like one person to generalise and comment on all the happenings of bwood..land that one person comes out with this whole review...

It happens with so many of the english papers here in uk...theymhad a 'asian' reporter..who picks out lines from reviews in india and puts it in his newspaper and err we go it becomes a international critic.

Dont take them seriously...

Shahrukh Khan was the only good thing in the movie

kat's act very well i'm proud of her!!!!
Srk is a definition of best actor
anu is great

I havent seen this movie but I have seen every movie of Anushka's and you cant call either her debut movie(for most part of the movie - she was sad and had to mature up) or the bbb( where she was driven not bubbly but matured and arrogant girl) -

But then if KAt had played any of the above roles, it would have looked the same but it was Anushka so I could easily note the difference. Anushka isnt here for beauty, she and priyanka are two real actress stars.

Kat ... well... nobody knows why she is here but every one knows ( may be it is her vodoo that she apparently does at St. mary's church/dargah/some temple) her cinemas strangely become hit. that strange unexplainable stupid luck is why she is in films.

I prefer anushka any day and i prefer any actress over katrina.

People have their opinions , for me and a lot of people Katrina acted very well, i love her performance in this film. sHE HAVE a mature role i like that. aNUSHska is a great actor but this performance looklike a perfomance she did in bbb and P. house. bUT I LIKE her.
And people who compare anu and kat's role it's not fair, it's not a same kind of role .
It's like comparing a cat with a bird. It's not the same thing!!!!!!
And SRK is a mostttttttttttttttttttttt good looking and best actor in this industry!!!

Jab tak hai jaan rock!!!!!!!!

daily mail, my friends and sisters too loved it.

daily mail, are you serious, fans of SRK and did not love it, me I am not fan of him and so my friends are except for one but we all loved the movie, it is one of the best indian movies ever, strange what you say.

daily mail, are you sure of that, sorry but I am not fan of SRK but I really find the movie so great, one of the best movies in indian cinema, there are some disadvantages but the movie as whole rocks, me and my friends feel too so, are you serious about what you say?

I heard that the film got lots of MIXED REVIEWS.... and majority of the people just went to watch it because it's YASH JI'S last film and they had huge expectations from the film. Every people I know who went to watch this movie complained about how POORLY and AMATEUR the script is, filled with LOOP HOLES. And, my friend are HUGE FAN OF SRK and they were for the first time were really DISAPPOINTED with his work. And, they said that Katrina as usual was PATHETIC and should stick to only ITEM SONGS. Her diction with HINDI was never good in the first place for her to try PUNJABI. Anushka was okay and cinematography was good.

i am not sure but i think you did not understand the plot. mark my words this film will go down in history of indian cinema.

100% agree wit you

I liked katrina in the movie...she wan't bad but not the best. Anushka was a little better. For me I don't think expressions are everything, I look at the character as a whole and Katrina did pull off Mera.

See how even international critics are praising SRK and Anushka but not that cheap wooden expressionless Katrina Kaif! She ruined the movie!! She has no talent at all! I am clueless as to what some people have seen in her in India??

according to me jthj is best romantic film of srk or for that matter best romantic hindi film. the filmworld has lost a legend in yash chopra. bravo srk you did not let down your mentor in his last film. besides katrina kaif surprised me absolutely with her acting performance and ofcourse anushka sharma.
----------------------
i am surprised that katrina kaif has surprised u with her acting (or no acting) Dude u must be retard. she ruined the movie..if yash raj is winning any buck its bcoz of srk and anushka

After watching the film i am finding it really unfiar how some people are criticing kat and praising anushka.

Anushka done a fab job and kudos to her...but what she done is not acting for her...she has done that in every one of her films since she started..same character and same way to show the bubbly jolly carefree nature...and seriously it is not even hard to do this because people are like this in normal every day life anyway...

Because katrinas character was less happy and less carefree it is harder to understand ...but people think that because anushka was more louder she is better in acting which is nit true...

It is harder to enact a torn yet strong and etheral character than a littl girl who doesnt have a care in the world! And i think katrina dne that perfectly! And so did anushka

____
I AGREE! kat did a really good job and im not even a fan! im sick of seeing everyone say anushka was great. she was annoying and overacting. she always does that. kat did a really nice job
people hate her because she is gorgeous and successful.. anushka is not attractive so everyone likes her more LOL

i dont know why people say kat cant act..im not her fan but isaw the movie and she was great!! better than anushka..she was annoying

All non sense

honestly speaking don't know why people saying katrina can't act. Anushka plays the same charachter in every film bbubbly & loud & ANNOYING, i seriously was irritated with her acting wished she wasn't like that or at least calm down a bit. Katrina did good no not the best buty good enough for people to complemennt her as well especially the scene when she dance like another anon pointed out& when SRK tells her he loved her that's exactly how I would react mater of fact My eyes were glued on the screen in that part, or when she goes to meet her mother , & when she cried. I think she deserves a little bit more praise then what people are giving . if not itseems people are being baised or just hating her for no reason whether a critic or not.

There was no chemistry between katrina and srk , as excepted in YRF movies. The story was not at all strong.

anyhow, this movie copied gossip girls!!! so thats cheap!

everyone speaks so low on katrina's acting skills... so strange she is still acting and learning nothing

I thought the story could have been improved, I liked it but did not love it. Most of the movie did not make sense.

of course overseas will suck up, otherwise indians will cry racism !

LOL... Many films go unnoticed and many biggies are not reviewed in the UK by papers!! Not racism but tha fact that distributors don't show their films to press in advance

The film was good but katrinas character..even though it was a brilliant character was not shaped well..

They bought in so much different emotions and situations for her that it made her character nit understandable..

For example what is the need for her to be shown as a grounded girl but at same time a mischevious bad girl who smokes etc..it doesnt make sense to clash the two personalities..there was no need for it...y introduce 'tina'??

Yashjo shows her to be this big business woman who is very intelligent and grounded and believs in god mire tha anything else...y not leave it at that? Why bring in this other personality of kats where she wants to dance like a maniac wants to smoke etc...

If they had just kept the first character that of a sensible grounded religious girl who gets side tracked from her belief because of samars love that would have worked for kat brilliantly and it wouldnt have left the audience confused as to why katrinas acting was so unstable....

I read somewhere that it created some kind of history in overseas!!

I'm from Singapore, and Nutshell review isn't even known.

Good on them then.

Have never heard of Nutshell review and I stay in Singapore ! strange!

great.yashji was a legend and srk is so popular in overseas.

Bakwaas film

of course overseas will suck up, otherwise indians will cry racism !
