Why does Tabu call Ajay Devgn 'VD'?

Tabu and Ajay Devgn are coming together in a film after a long gap of 18 years but the bond between the two actors is strong as ever. In a chat with a leading daily, the very talented Tabu talked about this friendship that she has had with Ajay Devgn since many years and also revealed why exactly she calls Ajay 'VD'.

Tabu revealed that she has known Ajay since childhood as he was her cousin Sameer Arya's close friend and hence she has known him by his given name ie Vishal Veeru Devgn and hence she calls him 'VD'.

On being asked about them working together after 18 years, Tabu stated that the wait was worth it as she gets to do a film like 'Drishyam' with Ajay. Talking about the experience of working with Ajay, she stated that she was very comfortable with him and that in fact she had to remind herself that they were on the filmset. She said,

"I think it was worth it to wait that long and then come back and do a film like Drishyam with him. Comfort is an understatement to describe what I feel with VD. When I am around him, I have to sometimes remind myself that we are on a film set and that we are here on work. With VD, it is easy to forget that you are working. He doesn't approach his work like that. And the good thing is, he doesn't allow anyone else to take themselves too seriously on set."

She also shared with the daily that because she and Ajay know each other so well, there was no guard or any need to pretend and that she did not have to worry about what she would say or how she would sit or behave,

"Believe me, some actors take themselves so seriously that I had forgotten ki aisa bhi chilled ho ke, mazaak kar ke, kaam kar sakte hain. It's a long time since I experienced that kind of working style. The beauty of working with VD is that I have known him so well and he knows me equally well. There is no guard, no need to pretend. It was such a nice and comfortable space to be in. I didn't have to worry about what I said, how I sat or behaved. Both of us have known each other through thick and thin. No explanations were needed; no gaps were there to fill."

Tabu said that even though they are very friendly with each other, she had somehow lost touch with the actor although they did meet socially. She revealed that whenever she would meet Ajay at any party, there would be a lot of warmth and that they are always back-slapping and pinching each other's cheeks,

"Whenever I met Ajay at any party, there was so much warmth. That is what happens when you grow up with each other. We are always back-slapping, pinching each other's cheeks, what do I say?"

She also revealed that she would even do a guest appearance in if Ajay asked her to as she trusts what he comes to her with. She revealed that he is special to her as the very first hit of her career, 'Vijaypath', was opposite Ajay and that was the film that got her noticed. Tabu said,

"I know he wouldn't come to me with anything inconsequential. He is very particular about that. When he found something worthwhile, only then did he come to me. Frankly, for him, I will even do a guest appearance. He is special because the first hit of my career, Vijaypath was opposite him. That's the film that got me noticed for the first time. Needless to say that Ajay is an important part of my career."

'Drishyam' is a remake of a 2013 Malayalam film by the same name and stars Ajay Devgn, Tabu and Shriya Saran. It is all set to release on 31st July 2015.
