Oily skin is clearly a bane especially when it leads to unwanted acne and dark spots. Excess oil on the skin makes for the perfect atmosphere for acne and fungal infections. Dirt, grime and makeup often get mixed with the excess sebum which leads to clogged pores. Over time, these clogged pores develop infection and lead to acne and painful pimples. It is important to understand this basic process of how a pimple develops to ensure you do all things right in the beauty routine and avoid these issues. 

1. Keep your face clean: 

When we say that you need to keep your face clean, we do not mean, excessive face washes. The more you wash your face, the more your skin will try to compensate for the lost oils. It’s best to set a routine and at least wash your face twice a day. It is important to develop a routine so that your oil glands are aware of the amount of sebum to produce. Keeping your face clean will only help in reducing the chances of clogged pores and in turn, avoid acne. 

2. Make toners you best friend: 

Toners have ingredients with anti-inflammatory properties that help in reducing pimples. It also tightens and hydrates the pores so that your oil glands do not have to overcompensate of it. Make sure you choose toners that do not excessively dry out your skin, I mean, you cannot change your skin type, right? This will only lead to more oil production. 

3. Have a good masking routine: 

When there are hormonal changes in the body, your skin tends to get more oily. To avoid that, you need to take care of your skin throughout the month. Make sure to use clay masks and home remedies with oatmeal and honey at least once a week to ensure your skin feels pampered. 

4. Use moisturiser: 

Gel and water-based moisturisers are oil-free and tend to cater to oily skin perfectly. Just because you have oily skin does not mean you don’t need a moisturiser. It will lock in the moisturiser without making the skin feel greasy which is a win-win situation at least when it comes to avoiding pimples. 

5. Just because it works for others, doesn’t mean it works for you: 

There are different kinds of oily skin and every person reacts to products in a different way. It is important to understand your skin and what it reacts to. For example here - just because tea tree oil helps your friend in dealing with acne, doesn’t mean it’s going to help you. Understand what’s triggering your acne. It’s not always excess oil but sometimes, food, hormones and these days, it could also be a dirty face mask. So make sure you listen to what your skin is trying to say. You’re the best judge of that!
