The monsoon season hits us right around June and works its way till the end of August. Amidst the rain it brings, the monsoons have quite a reputation of affecting our skin and hair. With the pouring rain comes unavoidable humidity which sucks the moisture out of our hair and skin making it dryer than ever. While we take our best efforts and create a routine to prevent it, what we do not understand is that the things that work all year round will not be effective during the monsoon. So, we have listed a few disasters that are caused by the season and the different ways that you can avoid them.

1: Frizzy Hair

Unless you have a team of experts working on your hair every day, frizzy hair is something that literally everyone has to deal with. The hair tends to get frizzy during the monsoon because of the rise in humidity levels. This sucks the moisture out of the hair making it puffy, frizzy and prone to breakage.

What can you do?

Frizzy hair is the result of lack of moisture in the hair. Make sure to give your hair enough moisture and to lock that moisture in before stepping out of the house. Coconut oil and homemade hair masks can do wonders, in turn, helping you tame that mane.

2: Oily Skin

Since the humidity tends to dry up the skin, the layers of the skin try to compensate for it by producing more natural oils. This oily layer attracts germs and dirt which ends up clogging the pores and making the skin prone to acne.

What can you do?

Make sure to keep your skin hydrated at all times. Even if you have oily skin, skipping moisturiser will make it worse. Try some homemade face masks to get rid of the excess oil every week.

3: Unhappy feet

If you are someone who has to step out of the house for work or other chores, your feet are the first thing that will get affected because of the rain. Puddles, wet feet and walking in the rain can affect your feet by causing infections.

What can you do?

The minute you step home, make sure to rinse the feet to get rid of all the bad water that must have touched the feet. You can also scrub it off with lukewarm water and a bit of sea salt.

4: Chapped Lips

The rainy weather is likely to make your lips look chapped, dry, and dehydrated. It is one of the most important features and having to risk its health will end up making you look unattractive.

What can you do?

Always carry a lip balm along with you. Make sure to re-apply it every few hours. Avoid using lipsticks as the chemical and wax content in it will end up drying your lips more.

5: Smudged Makeup

Oily skin tends to smudge the makeup off especially around the eyes. This may make you look like a racoon at the end of the day.

What can you do?

Avoid cosmetics that are not waterproof. Invest in a good primer and make sure to powder the oily areas of your skin to avoid any smudging.

6: Body Odour

Humid weather can unleash a whole world of not-so-pleasant smells, not to mention the damp and icky after-effects of getting caught in the rain. If you are someone who travels to work, body odour becomes a big problem.

What can you do?

Always use a deodorant or antiperspirant to save you from the bad odour. Also, make sure to carry a body mist along for a few months to avoid any havoc.
