Washing hair can be a pain especially if you are traveling, water is scarce or if you are in a hurry. Between finding the right shampoo and trying to get your locks dry, it can be a very time consuming process. Not to forget that most shampoos in the market are full of harmful chemicals that can not only trigger allergic reactions but also lead to hair fall, early greying, balding and irritation of the scalp.  Commercial shampoos are also rich in soap content which is harmful for the environment. To reduce your carbon footprint and check microplastic use, ditch your shampoo and turn to some alternatives. In fact, these hair cleansers are so effective that you can go up to five days without having to wash your hair. Below are a few alternatives to getting clean hair without using shampoo!

1. Light rye flour

Rye flour is a very mild hair wash. It is full of vitamins, minerals, amino acids and Omega 3 fatty acids. The best thing about this cleanser is that it does not disrupt the natural PH balance of our hair and scalp, so it’s really good for your hair health. It contains a lot of Vitamin B5, too. Vitamin B5 is regenerative and has anti-inflammatory effects which prevents infections.

2. Bentonite clay

Bentonite clay isn’t just a great face mask, it’s also great for your scalp and hair. It removes dirt and grease easily and prevents dandruff formation. Make sure to use tiny amounts of bentonite clay since it can be a bit drying.

3. Baking soda

Baking soda is possibly the most well known no-shampoo hair cleanser. It helps in thoroughly cleansing the hair and effectively removes all grime. If you have dry and brittle hair, it’s advisable to stay away from baking soda.

4. Only water

Yes, you read that right. The natural sebum in your hair is enough to maintain the moisture of your hair. Wash your hair with cold water and massage your finger thoroughly on the scalp to effectively remove any grease. Cold water also seals hair cuticles and makes it shinier.

5. Tea tree oil

Add tea tree oil and lemon to a mug of water. Massage it thoroughly into the scalp. This solution is as effective anti-dandruff shampoos. Tea tree oil is perfect for people with scalp issues.
