Be it summer or winter, almost every one of us uses deodorant as a part of our daily hygiene routine. In fact, swiping our underarms with roll-on deos or spraying perfume before going out comes naturally to us. No matter how sparsely you use fragrances, one cannot deny that using deodorants regularly can affect us negatively. Most fragrances contain a number of harmful ingredients that can irritate our skin, cause inflammation, make our skin dry and cause long-term health problems. Most deodorants and antiperspirants also contain parabens known as phthalates, which can have a negative effect on our body’s hormonal levels. Prolonged use of deos may also increase your chances of skin and breast cancer. Since none of us would want to smell stale, giving up deodorant doesn’t seem to be a great option either. However, you can still smell fresh by following a few easy tricks. Read on to find out  how.

1. Exfoliate your underarms regularly

The best way to prevent underarm body odour is by keeping your underarms clean. Exfoliating regularly keeps skin bacteria-free, thus keeping us from smelling awful. You could mix  a pinch of oat flour and coconut oil to create a natural scrub for your armpits.

2. Eat a healthy diet

You can also control your body odour by eating a healthy diet. Cutting back on red meat, onions, garlic, tobacco and alcohol can greatly improve your body odour. Drink at least 8 glasses of water every day to stay hydrated and smell fresh.

3. Use essential oils

Essential oils such as bergamot, blood orange, clove etc. are great for fixing body odour. Since essential oils also have antibacterial properties, they prevent infections and other skin disorders. Regular use of essential oils can also reduce sweating.

4. Lemons can fight body odour

The citric acid in lemon kills both bacteria and odor! Lemon also has mild astringent effects which cleanses your pores and prevents your skin from sweating profusely.

5. Wear clothing that lets your skin breathe

Wear cotton or linen as much as you can. Natural fabrics allow air circulation to your skin. Send your clothes to laundry often to avoid smell causing bacteria build-up. Wearing synthetic clothing can irritate your skin and make you sweat, thus causing you to smell bad.
