Hair Care Made Easy: THESE are the shampooing habits you should avoid

Washing our hair regularly is the easiest way to keep our hair clean and maintain a good scalp health. Shampooing is a sure shot way of cleaning out the dust and grime, giving a bounce to our hair and looking fresh. But have you wondered if you are performing this seemingly easy task properly? It seems impossible to think that there’s a wrong way of shampooing but indeed, there are several! Keep reading to find out if you have been shampooing your hair properly all this while.

Thoroughly shampoo your scalp

We focus all our time on shampooing the ends of our hair. Since this part of our hair is comparatively older and drier, shampooing leads to dehydration of hair. Instead shampoo your scalp thoroughly because it is the roots that are often the oiliest! Clean the scalp in circular motion to avoid any breakage or tangling of hair. Rinse out the shampoo with warm water.

No need to shampoo twice

Contrary to popular belief, shampooing twice is unnecessary! Washing twice strips the hair of its natural oil which in turn adversely affects the growth of hair. An exception can be made if you have oiled your hair beforehand and feel like the oil isn’t washing off or if you are shampooing after a long time!

No conditioner on the scalp

Never ever to apply conditioner on the scalp for it’ll make the roots oilier than they naturally are. For optimum hydration, conditioner should be applied from the mid until the ends of your hair. The ends of the hair are the driest and need additional moisturizing. You can apply more conditioner at the ends and leave it on for longer. After three minutes, wash your hair under cool running water. The cold water closes the cuticles and retain moisture. This also means your hair won’t absorb moisture from the environment and turn frizzy!

Do not rub your hair dry

Under no circumstances should you rub your hair dry - no matter how soft the towel is. Rubbing your hair dry makes your hair dry and brittle. Air drying your hair is the best option, but if you are in a hurry you can gently pat or blot dry your hair with a cotton towel. Also avoid hair dryers as much as you can!
