When it comes to preparing DIY masks at home, most of us love to use the ingredients from our kitchen. The kitchen ingredients that we use are natural and do wonders for our skin and hair. Especially in India, we have been using ingredients like turmeric, honey, multani mitti for our skin and hair for ages. However, these ingredients can harm the skin if not used and mixed properly. People should choose ingredients based on their age, climatic conditions and skin type. Some ingredients can work wonders for people with oily skin during winters, but the same ingredients can damage the dry skin.

Similarly, what you use in summer for your skin may not be the same in winters. In winter our skin tends to get dry and loses its elasticity. Hence, if you are planning to prepare some face masks for winters, then here are some kitchen ingredients that you must avoid to keep the dryness away in winters.

Gram Flour:

Gram flour has been used popularly in face masks, body scrubs and ubtans. However, people with dry skin should avoid this ingredient during winters, since it has oil reducing properties. And during winters skin requires hydration and nourishing, and gram flour reduces the chances of that completely.

Rice flour:

Rice flour has natural skin tightening properties and is used in face masks in general. But this again should be avoided during winters, since it has high contents of starch in it, hence can dry your skin and may make it look and feel stretched and leathery. If you have dry skin, then you must avoid adding rice flour in your face packs as it will remove moisture from your skin and add lines and wrinkles to your skin.

Lemon:

Lemon is packed with antioxidants and hence is one of the most preferred natural beauty ingredients. But in winters, this ingredient should be avoided by all means. Since lemon is highly acidic and can dry your skin and lead to severe burning and rashes. If you have dry skin, lemon should be avoided at all cost.

Cucumber:

Cucumber helps in soothing and hydrating your skin. But this cool veggie has natural astringent properties and should be avoided during winters. Cucumber may damage and gives the skin a dry look as it depletes the oil from the skin, especially around the eye area.

Potato:

Potatoes are known to tighten the skin because of their starch content. However, they should be avoided during winters, as the starch content in them can make the skin look dry and dull. This kitchen ingredient may damage the skin if applied to an already dry skin which can lead to skin irritation.
