Due to stress and pollution, our lips tend to get dehydrated, and in spite of having litres of water, they don't shine and end up looking dry and dull. Most of us tend to have dry and chapped skin as a result of our lifestyles and the choice of our lipsticks. Times like these, a lip balm doesn’t quite do the trick. We need to constantly moisturise and exfoliate our lips to make them supple and soft. And at times, lip balms don't do the desired work, that's when lip scrub comes into play.

Lip scrub, when used twice or thrice a week, helps to get rid of dead skin cells that accumulate on your lips. When your lips feel a bit rough, that's when you know that you have to use the lip scrub. A lip scrub will exfoliate your lips most gently. It will help you to get rid of chapped lips and flaky skin. Applying lipstick after you have exfoliated your lips not only looks better, it also feels a lot nicer. A lip scrub is usually made using moisturising and exfoliating ingredients. Read below to find out some DIY lip scrubs that you can make at home.

Oatmeal Powder, Milk and Honey:

If you are someone with sensitive lips, then this scrub is ideal for you. It's gentle on your lips and the skin around. In a bowl take 1 tbsp each of oatmeal powder and milk, and 1 and a half tsp of honey. Mix them well and scrubs your lips with it for 3 minutes. Since it contains fresh ingredients, you need to use it immediately.

Almond oil, Coffee grounds, and Honey:

If you love coffee, then this scrub is for you. Using this scrub will refresh your senses while it scrubs all the dead skin off your lips. Almond oil is very light and hydrating in comparison to other bases for lip scrubs. Take 1 tbsp each of almond oil and coffee grounds and 1/2 tsp of honey. Combine all ingredients in a bowl and use it to scrub your lips. The fragrance of the coffee grounds will make your morning routine better! Rinse it off with warm water and pat your lips dry.

Coconut oil, Sugar and Peppermint oil:

If you are planning to use a lip scrub before applying lipstick, then this one's for you. Since the coconut oil will nourish, white sugar will exfoliate while the peppermint essential oil will help plump up your lips. Mix 1 tsp coconut oil, 1/2 tsp of white sugar, 1 drop of peppermint oil in a bowl and blend it well. Rub the mixture on your lips for 2-3 minutes and rinse off with warm water.

Olive oil, Sugar and Honey:

If you have dry lips then use this scrub since it's deeply nourishing. Olive oil will hydrate your lips, while honey being a natural humectant, will attract water to your lips and make them soft. Brown sugar will add texture to the mix and add more colour. In a small bowl, mix 1 tsp olive oil, 1 tbsp brown sugar and 1/2 tsp honey. Blend it well and apply the mixture to your lips and rub for 2 minutes. Allow the mixture to sit on your lips for 10-15 minutes and rinse off with warm water.
