Flowers are nature’s gift to man. They not only delight the senses with their beautiful colours and fragrances but also bring about the ideal harmony of body and mind. The fragrances of flowers have a calming, relaxing and refreshing effect on the mind. Flowers can be used to mix face packs at home. They refresh and tone the skin and also have particular healing benefits. In many high-end beauty salons, flowers are used in treatments. Here are some face packs with flowers:

Lotus Pack:

Soak the Lotus flowers in 3 to 4 tablespoons warm milk for an hour. Crush the flowers with the fingers. Add three teaspoons gram flour (besan) and mix it with the milk and crushed flowers into a paste. Apply on the face, avoiding the lips and area around eyes. Wash it off after 20 to 30 minutes. Lotus has several healing properties, as it is anti-allergic and soothes skin rashes. It has an astringent action and helps to tone the skin and close the pores. It also soothes sun damage and removes tan.

Hibiscus Pack:

Make a cold infusion, by allowing the flowers to stand overnight in cold water, in a ratio of one to six.  Next morning crush the flowers. Strain and keep the water. Mix the flowers with 3 teaspoons oats, 2 drops tea tree oil and add the water to mix into a paste. This hibiscus pack helps to cleanse the skin, remove impurities, reduce oiliness and control pimples and acne. It also lightens pimples marks. It has a cooling and soothing action on the skin.

Marigold Pack:

Allow the flowers to stand in warm water overnight. Add yoghurt and sandalwood paste and mix together to make a smooth paste. Apply on the face, avoid the lips and area around eyes. Wash it off after 20 minutes. Marigold has a soothing and germicidal effect on skin irritation and eruptions. It may be used to control pimples and rashes. It has an astringent effect, reducing oiliness and closing the pores. It is ideal for normal to oily and combination skin.

Mogra (a variety of jasmine) Pack:

Crush two handfuls of mogra flowers and add 1 to 2 teaspoons aloe vera gel. Add aloe vera gel gradually. It should be a mixture that does not drip. Apply on the face, avoiding the lips and wash it off after 20 minutes. It may be applied to the area under the eyes to prevent tiny wrinkles. Mogra is particularly beneficial for dry and sensitive skin. It helps to tone and tighten the skin, delaying visible ageing signs. It is also said to soothe inflammation and eruptions and is, therefore, beneficial for skin with acne or boils. The aloe gel helps to moisturise acne-prone skin, without making the skin oily. It is also beneficial to dry and sensitive skin, especially when there is redness and itching.

Rose Pack:

Fresh and soft rose petals can be used for a face pack. Take a handful of rose petals. Wash and grind into a paste. Add one teaspoon each yoghurt and honey, as well as 2 tablespoons dried and powdered orange peels. Apply on the face, avoiding the lips and area around eyes and wash off with plain water after 20 minutes. The fragrance of Rose is said to have a calming effect on the mind. It induces relaxation and gives a sense of well being. Rosewater is one of the most powerful natural skin toners. It not only tones the skin but the capillaries too. It also improves blood circulation to the skin surface. The best part is that it suits all skin types, including sensitive skin and acne conditions. Rosewater can also be added to face masks when mixed at home. It mixes well with most other ingredients used in home-made masks, like honey, yoghurt, oatmeal, Multani mitti, sandalwood paste, egg and so on.
