Getting flawless skin in today’s day and age seems like a major task. Well, quite a big task, to be honest. Given the water we use on our skin is usually hard water and the amount of air pollution we are exposed to; our skin is nothing but fading with every passing minute. We work in erratic conditions and undergo stress for various reasons on almost a daily basis. Our skin is left frail and lifeless and the glow definitely is missing. While we do have major complaints about all of this, a facial spa too costs a major bomb.

Given that we just cannot be spending the big bucks once every two weeks. We here have got your back, once again. While first you might get overwhelmed thinking that you have to do everything on your own, believe us for you will be extremely involved with the whole process. You’ll get to spend time with yourself, understand your body and skin and also save a lot of money. Listed below are the various steps that you should be following when you’re doing a facial spa at home.

Step 1: Cleansing

This one is the most basic yet extremely important step. Wash your face with a facial cleanser recommended for your skin. This will help in eliminating dirt and excess oil from your skin. Make sure you’re using warm water. Pat dry your skin and leave it to rest for a couple of minutes.

Step 2: Exfoliate

You cannot do a successful facial without exfoliating your skin. This step helps in removing all the dead skin cells and opens up your clogged pores. You can even make a homemade exfoliator. Once you’ve cleansed your skin, choose an exfoliator perfect for your skin. Take a bit in your hand and apply it on your face. Massage your skin for a few minutes and then wash it off with cool water.

If you have normal skin, you could use some honey, grounded oatmeal and one tablespoon of olive oil.

If you have oily skin, you can use honey, sugar and a little water.

If you have dry skin, you can use 1 teaspoon of honey, grounded almonds and 1 teaspoon of olive oil.

Step 3: Steam

Steam is a great way to pamper your skin. It lets your skin breathe and also opens up the pores. Take a bowl of hot water, be careful throughout the whole process. Place a towel on your heat and cover yourself in the pot. Do this for about 5-10 minutes and then leave it out. You can put a few drops of rosemary essential oil which will relax your skin all the more.

Step 4: Apply your face mask

Once your skin is rested with the steam session, it is time you apply your face mask. Pick a homemade mask which is suited for your skin. Apply it evenly and spread it well on your face. Keep it on for about 15-20 minutes and then wash it off with cool water.

If you have normal/ combination skin then you can use a mixture of yoghurt and honey.

If you have oily skin then you can use multani mitti and some honey.

If you have dry skin then you can use ½ mashed banana and some honey.

Step 5: Tone your skin

Once your skin has taken in all the goodness. It is time for you to seal your pores so that no dirt seeps into the skin. Pick a toner which is perfect for your skin. You could use ½ teaspoon of apple cider vinegar and 1 teaspoon of water. Mix it together and apply it on your face. Leave it on and allow the toner to dry.

Step 6: Moisturise your skin

The last step of your home facial. Moisturising will help in keeping your skin hydrated and will lock the moisture in your skin. Take a bit on your fingertips and massage it gently.
